97.1 FM country legends

This just in: EMF will change the KTHT call to KLVH.

The KLVH call has been on an EMF station in Prescott, Arizona, which will become KLPT.

This will be the seventh call on the 97.1 frequency, following KRTK, KEYH-FM, KOND, KRTK (again), KKTL, and KTHT.
Request is dated to take effect on 10/31, so I guess we have our expected flip date.

2016 Ford Focus Titanium has HD Radio, so those my 2018 Ford Focus Titanium .
Vehicles that have been discontinued and are no longer made by Ford. As far as the F-Series (their most popular selling vehicle), HD Radio continues to be considered an "upgrade" and not standard on their most popular packages. For you to get HD Radio, you need to splurge and get their "Bang & Olufsen" audio package. But at that point, most people are likely more fascinated by their Apple CarPlay integration over their radio (much less their HD Radio).

What does come standard across all packages is Bluetooth. Even the XL fleet trucks we purchased a few years ago come with Bluetooth. At this point, it is safe to say that HD Radio is now a novelty product and not something to take seriously in the future landscape of audio listening.

Internet connectivity is here to stay.

Does anyone know how to check to see if 94.5 WGKA Greenville SC has an application to change its calls since they are also being purchased by EMF.
It's WGTK Greenville, and nothing on file requesting new calls...yet.

I thought you could just search the applications for the station under the new system, and call letter applications would show. I didn’t see that for 97.1, though.

The call change is actually what is called a “call sign request (exchange)” and was filed by the Prescott EMF station currently holding the KLVH call, so it doesn’t show up under KTHT’s info.

BTW a tip of the hat🎩 to poster “rosecitymedia” who, in a post on Sept. 2, noted the KLVH call in Prescott and asked if it could be headed to Houston.👏

Still nothing on Country Legends to suggest the impending demise of the format on 97.1. They are still plugging 92.9 HD-2 as well as streaming on the Country Legends app.

A tip of the 10 gallon back at ya, Frog. You are one of my favorite contributors here.

A bit of nerd coming out here: KLV can also represent the COL of Cleveland. Pretty clever of ol' EMF, ain't it?

Just idle thinking here: If the SBS purchase of KROI falls through, and EMF winds up with 92.1 for a southside K-Love simulcast, the available and similar KVLH call (also discussed earlier) would go nicely with KLVH on 97.1.

Doesn't 92.1's signal perform better in Galveston than it does in Houston? KLVG is one of their's too, currently on the left coast.

I would firmly bet against K-Love scooping up a 3rd station down there in Houston.

As it stands, things may get very interesting on Treble Drive. KSBJ has never before had the kind of head to head competition that K-Love brings. Christian radio, of course, is a little different of an animal, but it'll be interesting to hear how they will adjust to facing well polished programming being directly aimed at ears that the foundation has had to themselves for nearly 4 decades.

The new KROI tower, which went on the air in March 2021, provided a nice improvement for the 92.1 signal over Houston metro. No, it’s not a Missouri City stick, but coverage is now better than it used to be. I’m in NW Harris County and the new facility has made a noticeable difference.

Looking at the 60 dBu contours of 92.1 and 97.1, there is not a lot of overlap, so I wouldn’t rule out EMF being interested in 92.1. However I will stick to my earlier comment that the SBS deal for KROI has a 65% chance of closing. Probably reassuring for RO/SST that there are potential alternative (read: religious) buyers that actually have money in the bank.

How about Cumulus? Not that they are currently in buying mode, but teaming it up with KRBE as an AC or Hot AC could make for an interesting 1-2 punch for the cloud. You'd think they'd like to have more presence than just a standalone in Houston, without being drug down by a couple of haphazard rimshots like they previously did.

SBS may or may not end up with the signal. I think your 65% estimate may be a bit high. They certainly want it, bit can they afford it now with all that's going on with the Voz litigation?

You may have finally struck the nail on the head.
It wouldn’t be too much gain with 97.1 though. Sure they could get a stronger signal downtown and around Pasadena but most of the translator coverage on paper would be in the 60 dBu contour of 97.1. And with KTWL they would only really gain a 60 dBu in Navasota, Hempstead, & Waller. All those areas aren’t too deep in the fringe but neither are the main areas KLTW covers. I’m sure they could try to move KTWL to cover College Station and possibly make the translator nondirectional. But you could basically drive from Beaumont to Navasota with not a lot of drop outs on 105.3.

I also think the KTWL calls would pair well with the KLTW calls because of how similar they are.

Now in the final week for Country Legends on 97.1, as the sale closing should happen 10/31.

Still no indication on air about the impending demise of the format. They are frequently promoting the CL app, and occasionally reminding about 92.9 HD-2. Have noticed that the stopsets are much shorter as remaining commercial inventory is burned off. And it could be my imagination, but the number of what you might consider “hardcore Country” songs has gone up.

Call change to KLVH will occur 10/31 but it wouldn’t surprise me if the actual programming flip happens at midnight beginning 11/1.

If so, it'll be weird hearing the Country Legends announcer use EMF's calls in the legal ID

And 92.1 is still going by “Praise 102.1 HD2”

I’m going to try recording around midnight going into 10/31 and then 11/1 if it doesn’t happen then.
