97.1 FM country legends

As I've mentioned in multiple other threads recently about call letter changes, when there is a sale attached to a call change the new calls DO NOT take effect until the new operator takes over. 10/31 is a projected date, nothing more.
The 10/31 date for the call change on 97.1 is stated in the FCC approval and authorization for the call exchange with the Prescott station, as requested by EMF. So it also makes sense as a closing date.

And 92.1 is still going by “Praise 102.1 HD2”
As they’ve been doing for almost five months now.

I won’t even bother to speculate on the closing for 92.1, given the messy situation with SBS. Currently 11/15 is the drop dead date in the APA, but as far as the FCC is concerned they have until mid-January to consummate the deal, unless a further 90 day extension past that is requested and granted.

Selling WRAZ in Leisure City or at least leasing it out to someone to get some money for the KROI deal would be a nice idea for SBS around now..

It's WGTK Greenville, and nothing on file requesting new calls...yet.
Being in the market, I’ve been watching for a WGTK call letter change since EMF generally changes calls more often than not. However, they may opt to keep WGTK since it’s sort of WG(reenville)TK(-Love). There’s nothing in the filing that indicates they have to be changed, Salem has them on an AM in KY but they don’t seem to be of anything valuable or IP related.

Just looked at the coverage for WRAZ and that is one brutal signal…95% of it is over the Atlantic or the Everglades…and it only reaches the southern end of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market. Ay yi yi.😵‍💫😖 Of course many stations in that area have the same issue due to geography.

Nonetheless, some religious broadcaster would probably go after it if they could pair it with a station in the north end of that market.

La Nueva 88.3 tried with this signal, maybe they could do it again? Or if they wanted a Rítmo simulcast down south, but I truly doubt even THAT would work.

Where do posters come up with some of the wild ideas for what a company should sell or do?
It's a radio discussion board. Of course there is going to be all sorts of speculation and ideas about what broadcasters should do.

No different than, say, a sports discussion forum where team strategy, player signings, trades, and other personnel moves are talked about. Doesn't mean any of it is going to actually happen...but often it does.

We've been talking about the futures of KROI and KTHT for years on this board, and about possible new owners and formats. Now it is actually happening. After all, a year ago we thought Cox was going to have four FMs and two TVs in their Houston cluster. Now they have completely exited the market. Change can happen. We discuss.

The recent goings on with SBS, along with their unimpressive past TV effort in Houston, has provided plenty of uncertainty whether they can close the KROI deal. Meanwhile the situation with the KTHT sale to EMF is completely clear and certain.

Any move that any broadcaster has ever made has started with someone thinking or saying, "What if we were to do this...?" This board is simply mimicking that process.

Someone need to develop a radio tycoon/ownership simulator type game.

Why? You may have noted that for-profit secular broadcasters are not buying much of anything. Why have a game about something that is not real. Monopoly lasted so long as it is a simplistic mirror of real business dealings.

Well, at least now they have a presence in Miami due to the 106.3 translator in the city proper...

Most of the best selling video games are not real. Unless you’re telling me somewhere out there I can move and rotate blocks to clear up to 4 lines at a time. Or if any Italian plumbers are behind in a race and turn into a bullet for a few seconds to pass by other racers.

If only there were a real life Street Fighter. There's a number of people in this world whom I'd like to deliver a sonic boom.

Any thoughts on whether EMF might subscribe to Nielsen to get an idea of how well they are doing in Houston? I know they usually only buy “representative markets” but with long-established KSBJ a strong player on the ratings charts, would EMF want more solid data here? Or is the biggest metric the amount of money raised in the market? I can’t recall the last time I saw KHJK included, and they’ve been Air1 for 11 years.

The October numbers being released on 10/30 could be the final appearance for 97.1 in the monthly ratings reports. Will be interesting to see if 92.9 HD-2 and the Country Legends streaming app start pulling some audience in the near future.

I'd say EMF will likely not pay for the ratings. KSBJ needs the ratings because they sell underwriting but EMF is listener supported and the number of donors in the coverage area will tell them all they need to know.
EMF doesn't care about Nielsen ratings. They have subscribed to a few markets on rare occasion, but by and large they don't need them and therefore don't spend the enormous amount of money it costs to get them.
