97.1 FM country legends

TOHID at 8pm was rather weird, still had KTHT, and also added “105.3 Beaumont” but no KLTW call for that. Perhaps 97.1 is being fed from KLTW until it gets its own downlink?

This is becoming a normal thing at K-Love, especially when the station you're hearing has another affiliate nearby. Good chance Beaumont now hears, "KLTW Winnie-Beaumont, 97.1 Houston."

Wait..so the K-Love people actually recorded their own legal ID for the KTHT calls? Even though they were supposed to put their own call letters in?

At 10pm the TOHID was “New on 97.1 Houston, Positive Encouraging K-Love 97.1 KTHT Cleveland-Houston, 105.3 Beaumont.”

Why would they still be using KTHT? Call was supposed to flip to KLVH with the sale closing, and EMF requested it go into effect 10/31. Perhaps it will be updated tomorrow.

I will give a tip of the cowboy hat to Country Legends, which had a very nice 21 year run on 97.1, a frequency that had seen a prior string of format failures. I’m sure there are a lot of Country fans that are dissatisfied with the direction the genre has taken in recent years, and loved the CL classics. Hopefully many of them will discover the HD offering if they have a radio capable of receiving it.

Will be interesting to see what (if any) bump 93Q and The Bull get from displaced CL fans. I also imagine KVST is happy to be rid of a major competitor in Montgomery and Walker counties.

Now we get to turn our attention to KROI, but let’s do that on its own thread.

Edit to add: Just checked 97.1 on an HD radio, and the HD is OFF. Worth keeping an ear on this, should it return with subchannels perhaps running K-Love Classics and Radio Nueva Vida.

That’s exactly what I heard at 11pm.

they did not mention KLTW at the top of the hour. It’s common for them to mention the frequencies of the nearby areas.

I’m going to be keeping a close eye on if they turn HD on tonight. I was thinking they would have a subchannel for Air1. They turned HD off before the flip and was on very briefly with Country Legends branding HD but silent after the flip. It seems weird if they kept the HD off in a big market.

Well that explains things! Was in the car at 6, listening to 97.1 in HD, country ended, 10 seconds of silence, then maybe 2 seconds of K-Love, followed by around 10 minutes of silence on 97.1 HD with Country Legends PAD data. Then, K-Love clicked on, and seems like that was timed with the HD carrier going off. RDS by that time read K-LOVE.

I first heard K-LOVE around 6:12 or 6:13 and that’s when HD turned off. The analog was K-LOVE though. I assume the 10 seconds of silence was the analog and they turned the HD back on for some reason after the flip. I still haven’t listened to the recording yet.

8am TOHID for 97.1 on 11/1 still gives KTHT. Odd, as the call request change was granted on 10/18 with an effective date of 10/31: https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/d...uthorization/25076ff38b3fb2ba018b401092f10032

Meanwhile the Notice of Consummation for the 97.1 sale has been filed and accepted, and it includes the KLVH call: https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/d...draftcopy/FM/25076f918b63e1f6018b86c4dc09732a

Assume the KTHT insert is running in error and will be fixed shortly, unless they are totally unaware…?

What are the chances that the FCC would fine EMF for any of these fleeting, ticky-tack violations, even if someone were to complain?

The FCC has fined stations in the past for improper ID, but I think it would have to go on for quite a while. The 97.1 flip happened only 14 hours ago.

Only a guess, but perhaps EMF was waiting for the official FCC acceptance of the Notice of Consummation before changing out the TOHID. That acceptance happened this morning.
