97.1 in Austin adds Spanish pop block

Scanning the dial just after 7pm, came across "Desatados Hits" with a female DJ playing upbeat Spanish pop and taking phone calls. Heard Julieta Venegas, then J-Lo sing en Español. Their website indicates its an evening block and not a full format change for the translator.

Austin probably needs Spanish Pop full-time on a station. At least we've got that.

Paging Univision!!!

They should bring back Hits 107.7 or just simulcast KXTN. You think they'd get a clue from the constant showing of KXTN on the Austin ratings or the lack of Spanish pop.

That's been going on for a while. They do two segments. First is from 7 PM to 8PM and the other one goes from 11PM to Midnight.

Visit their website at http://www.desatadoshits.com/

Poor choice of URL if you ask me.

The intended audience understands the URL perfectly as Desatados Hits since there is no "sh" in Spanish.
BTW-- Desatados Hits translates to "Hits Unleashed."

Your comment reminds be of a Taco Cabana billboard that read, "In queso you're hungry." It made no sense to me at all until I read it out loud and Anglicized the pronunciation from KEH-so to KAY-so. Obviously that billboard was aimed at non-Spanish speakers.

I do not doubt that the meaning is clear, but my comment was based on the visual.

As a bilingual speaking person, I actually noticed the SHI* part of the url. I agree that the URL was poorly picked and any young Hispanic listener who knows English will probably also notice the "blooper", if you will. Spanish speaking listeners, not so much.

The quality of Fiesta Mexicana 97.1 sounds great to me. I don't speak Spanish so I don't normally listen to the music, but the audio sounds clear with no distortion and little compression.

This. Austin needs a "pop en espanol" station. There are three norteno stations; give us one pop en espanol back. I'll take "Digital" or "Hitz."

On another note, does anyone know how I can stream Digital 107-3 out of Laredo on my phone?

I hear a lot of banda, Duranguense and Regional stuff on those Austin FMs. Each station mixes it differently. Norteño and conjunto? Not so much.

What kind of phone do you have? If you have an iPhone or an Android, you can access it via TuneIn. I believe there's also a TuneIn for BlackBerry. You do, however, have to go through the Mexico list of stations to get there as going through Laredo will only show you US licensed stations.

I have a blackberry. I have TuneIn as well. I'll try a deeper search of the Mexico list.

I know it's available on TuneIn's iPhone app. I checked it before I posted. Just search under Mexico and then Tamaulipas, and you should be able to get XHGTS 107.3 and sister XHAVO 101.5.

The link works on my computer, but not on my Blackberry. Thanks anyway, though.

A lot of mobile phones won't support streaming via http. If TuneIn doesn't work for you, try that link but change the "http" to "mms."

TuneIn app works, allowing me to pick up Digital 107-3 on my Blackberry. Thanks for the info!!

TuneIn is awesome. They accept streams. For example, if a station is streaming but the stream's not listed for the station in TuneIn or on the TuneIn website, you can submit it to them via the link on the station's page and they'll archive it and make it available on mobile devices!
KROV HD2 is now streaming on mobile phones thanks to me submitting their stream to TuneIn.
