97.1 -NEW FORMAT AGAIN

Who's Perry & Rosemary? Perry used to be a TV lawyer..Rosemary had a baby, and was part of an old sixties folk group.."parsley,sage,rosemary,and thime...kinda like csn&y..without the drugs.... ;)

Chris, I heard Art Garfunkel was quite the basketball free throw shooter as well as one who enjoyed herb. So much for being a one trick pony.

One song I heard yesterday was something by George Thorogood ..something about
bourbon, whiskey, beer...I have never heard anyone play that. One thing the station
needs to do is display something for digital radios instead of "97.1"
they could display "97-1 RQQ" and maybe
show the title and artist.

bourbon, whiskey, beer the rock plays that quite frequently..today within 20 minutes i heard steve miller, rockin you baby, hit button..back in a few minutes to catch free bird on 97.1, hardly new and improved..at least i haven't heard the call it the "NEW"..not that i'm listening..but surfing..with not a lot to hear.guess i fall between olebud and you guys on the timeline chart..too young for mitch miller..but not ready for ozzy.(nor do i feel i will be)..after spending 20 years in a music store..i can't count the the number of times i heard budding 13 year old guitarists do the opening 8 bar riff of gravey train,,i mean crazy train, ,thats all they could do..apparently they never thought an audience would expect the rest of the song..strangely..i do like most of guns $ roses .yes garfunkle is a champion free throw shooter...

97.1 is nothing more than a 105.9 wannabe, and lets face it, they were here first. Have you noticed they are too lazy the scroll anything on their RDS at 97.1? Also I don’t hear one new song, its just like the old “tower” or whatever it was. Same old boring rock on the same station with a week signal, no marketing and no imagination. When will Cumulast just get rid of that signal and stop trying. While their at it, they could also do away with 106.7 and 95.5 too.

Consultants get your pencils out - KDF should also stop playing country since WSIX was here first. Also, remember 99.9% of people don't know, nor care, what RDS even is.
97.1 has a much broader playlist than 105.9 so the comparison doesn't hold up. 105.9 is stuck in a rut and someone saw an opportunity. If 97.1 doesn't misstep, we'll see erosion at 105.9 by the summer.

we'll see erosion at 105.9 by the summer. that is assuming 97.1 keeps the format that long..seems to me when they or anyone flips, if it doesn't generate an immediate numbers increase..it's back to the drawing board.."what do we try next" ? ???

In my two car setup, one car, my Chevy Silvarado truck, has XM and the sedan has regular ole run of the mill radio. When I am crusin' around town, I have now made 97.1 my fav station. Hey look, I am not crazy about some of that newer grunge rock crap, but they (97.1) play songs that 105.9 stopped playing 6 or 7 years ago.

I like that Karen Keely (Is that her name?). Whatever they pay her, they need to giver her raise and make her security there rock solid!!

Now when I have XM available, nothing comes close to XM 's "Deep Tracks", but 97.1 is now my fav regular ole station LOL.

But here is the thing. Will 97.1 stick with this? Or will they pull the ole plugeroo in a few months?

Did I say plugeroo? Gosh golly, I did. LOL

I certainly hope that the powers that be will give 97.1 time to build a loyal rock audience and NOOOOO six months is NOT enough time.

Rock on!!

As long as 97.1 stays on this course, they certainly are NOT a wannabe. You have to give someone high praise to someone who sees something going on and then they say: Hey, I can do this better. 105.9 became stale a long time ago. Sorry Mary Glen. As much as I like you and Joe Elvis, 105.9 is just stale and lifeless musically speaking. I am not blamming you two. I know damn well you all want something better!!

six months is NOT enough time. righton...but i bet the suits will not wait that long..as soon as the next book comes in..if the numbers are not any better..it will be time to change again..and a double righton for the crock..i doubt if the the cc upper echilon will allow the pd (mudd i guess is still there) to vary from the same worn out rotation..they are scared that playing one song more will send the listener to another station...am i wrong in surmising that corporate level types have little or no actual on air dj/pd/ experience and are unable to fathom what the LISTENER really wants to hear ?? ???

"What do we try next" is becoming a format in itself these days - Cumulus should copywrite it. What ever is happening at 97.1, I hope it sticks and corporate stays out of it. Cumulus has a big problem with stability. They get a station going right and pull the PD to go to another part of the country to put out another fire and save another sinking ship while letting the station they were yanked from sink. (I just described where I work to a tee, btw!!!!)

SwissVol: Have to give you thumbs up on what you wrote. Mary Glen and Joe Elvis are great talents. I met Mary Glen and Coyote when I was a kid out at the Kicks 104 (the old WHIN-FM) studio in Gallatin. My mother had called in on some contest and won the cheapest phone you have ever seen! What a dump but I was more excited meeting them than I would have been meeting anyone in Hollywood at the time! (The radio bug bites early)

I was also glad to hear Karen Keeley on 97.1. She is wonderful to listen to and a nice fit with the format.

Karen Keeley should just run for President! Total talent in every way. I am surprised she's been allowed to stay
and keep the water level up.

I sort of hate to say this on here, but Crumulus seems to have finally learned how to play radio a bit better. I
think the ATL market is rubbing off. Add that to the CC/Citadel cuts and they have a fighting chance if they
just focus and YOURE SPOT ON --- not play shell games three times a week with staff, management and
playlists.

They have something positive for the first time in years on 97.1 --- PLEASE KEEP IT for over 100 days.

BTW, when do the COL / power changes all go into affect for them?

Had to run into Nash-Vegas for a gathering Sunday Evening and had plenty of time to catch radio coming in and rolling out... On the new 97.1.. "A" grade for finding a station with no direct competition on the 25-54 side of Rock... "D-" grade for processing.. Sounds like "Smashed Patatos" with some lugnuts, bolts and broken fanbelts rattling around..The imaging is 'too copycat'... Hey, even though their playing stuff that 105.9 stopped playing some time back, they sound like they are tying to be COPYCATS.. WRQQ to WNRQ... The Real Rock Station to The Rock Station.... This can have two negative outcomes.. One, deluted numbers for both, as people do not right 'exact' in their diaries.... Two, ediger "Buzz" can play off the confussion (Even though they are more 18-44).... Overall the market sounded 'carboard' compared to when I was in the market in the 90's... I thought the Chrisitan FM's had more 'edge' and 'fun' and seemed to be more aligned with their audience, than the other formats.....'SIX sounded solid....'WTN continues to streach their lead and loyalty.. They didn't take the news/talk crown over night, but we saw it coming back in the early 90's....At least the new owners stayed the course and kept investing in their local talent... Give Ramsey's success a lot of credit as 99.7 was the flagship....On the original thought.. 105.9 sounded clean and the talent sounded pretty good, but the afternoon mix sounded more Classic Top-40-Rock lean (rock tracks that made the CHR charts)...Just my 2 cents.... Still love seeing the Candellera Towers spliting through the north hills into Nashville, on I-24... We ENG types love an impressive looking 'sticks'.... Kind of like Larry Flint likes 44....Oh, you know what he likes.... :p

Yorkie, you mentioned Mary Glen and Joe Elvis. I remember Joe at KDF back in the eighties and early nineties. Mary Glen I remember from the old days at 92 Q.

JOE ELVIS lives! I loved to listen to him when I was at Oldies 96.3 and building Way-Fm for Bob Augsburg back in 1991-92! We really had some cool and fun radio people across the dial to hang and yak with.. Joe sounded sooooo 'Snoopy' cool at 'KDF.... 8)

wow...you must be OLD! ;D
remember "Friendly Jim O'Brien" with MGL?

Nope. I have not a clue about that name.

Maybe I was thinking of Mary Glen being at 104.5. I thought it was 92 Q, but come to think of it, it was 104.5.

and I am old :'(

MGL was at 92Q until 1977...(or maybe 1978 when the move to Division Street studios) and "Friendly Jim O'Brien" was actually GH Bob Reich (last of Cromwell)...Reich on-air was primitive voice-tracking: he just left random breaks on reel, and I had to try to make it sound like a human was there. Only person fooled was the air traffic reporter (Lt. Newman) who was quite angry when he found out. Actually, MGL teamed up with Steve McCoy at 92Q, so she was
absolutely still there in 78. I need coffee...

MGL was still w/ Steve McCoy up until he (they) took the Z-93 job in ATL in '83 ... I THINK, I can't remember. I am sure
they were on the air from 78/79 until they left, right?? At least you just need coffee. How can it go so quickly and I forget
so much???
