97.1 SUCKS

I'm sure JACK/NRQ/Buzz are thanking you for freeing up your 1.whatever share in the market. Nice Job Guys!!! Ok, lets put on a station that rarely plays a hit song, at least 3 or 4 positioning statments (so far), and chase away the (very small)audience we already had! You guys are awesome. What will you be in 6 months?

I'd guess 6 months from know i'll STILL be working. I'm sure you'll be consulting from the couch. Hey man, gimme some fries with that shake. That microphone hooked around your ear must really be pissing you off. Stick to the I-Pod tough guy.

I got thinkin' about this last post. I figured i'd man up and let you know it Mac afternoon host at 97-1 RQQ. If you radio guru's have so much insight i'd love to discuss it with you personally ( or in an alley). After 20 years of doing this, I'd love for you to educate me on your outstanding insight. I'm not sure what the ratings are beyond 12+ (which are meaningless as far as sales goes), but I've actually enjoyed WRQQ since it flipped from classic hits to rock.

As for the comment that the station rarely plays a hit song, I have to disagree with that -- most every song I hear there is a hit (or an up-and-coming song). It may lean more pop-rock at times than WBUZ or WNRQ, but that's fine by me.

Agreed about the new direction, it's been a slow transition but apparently they're ramping up things, potentially to bring in more W18-49 to help the overall P18-49 and P25-54 numbers?

Not for nothin', Mac, but that's what I thought seven months ago when I last saw you. Don't forget you're working for the profesional liars at Cumulus (and they are good at it) and anyone who isn't named Dickey (and even some who are) is just penciled in. Look around the empty second floor and never underestimate that cabal of living heart donors you work for. I'm just sayin'.

Irishlefty --- after twenty years in the radio business the one thing you should know is no one in the business can educate anyone on anything logical...

I agree the music is listenable, but, the music is all wrong for this market. Good music does not = ratings...:)

Irishlefty ..don't take the comments here personally..not aimed at you or any jock in particular..the irate feeling that sometimes permeates this board is directed at corporate radio, and their time honored ability to totally fubar station after station due to their ignorance of what works..and what doesn't..in fact most seem to have cornered the market on what doesn't..to have stayed in the biz for twenty years is indeed a great accomplishment in the climate that has persisted in that time frame..you should have been there 40 years ago when it was fun..and it really worked ..

Hey Mac, I've been listening for a couple of hours. Sorry dude, you guys are going to have problems making this work. Do you honestly plan to liven up the one air presence, or is it just another ill-conceived format that isn't deep enough to make the customer buy into it . I am
not trying to start WWIII here with you, but, IF you have any say so on how things are programmed maybe you'll be able to get through to
the powers that control freak Crumy and take it to where it could go. Next couple of weeks should tell. Good luck.

I think the main problem is that 97.1 is attempting a format that just isn't needed in Nashville. There is just not a hole for another variation of classic rock in the market.

You already have 105.9 and Jack is about 90% classic rock.

Brian, you need to check the music logs. WRQQ isn't playing much Classic Rock anymore. In the past hour WRQQ played Dave Mathews Band, Meat Puppets, Saving Abel, Cream, Sublime, Peter Gabriel, Barknaked Ladies, Incubus, The Clash, and Kings of Leon.

I admit I haven't really listen too much. I tuned in last night and heard Spirits In The Material World than heard You're My Best Friend by Queen.

So if they aren't playing much classic rock then the question becomes how do you compete with WRLT, which doesn't have a big audience to begin with but what little they have is probably pretty loyal.

Wow, Mac... I can't believe you would let "GETALIFELOSERS" get under your skin like that, bro!

I guess I let the Irish temper get the best of me. HAHAHAHA!

Not to give away trade secrets, Mac. This has potential...force em to listen. Ditch the overplayed classic rock.

My memory is a little fuzzy because there have been SO many format changes over there, but isn't this basically what didn't work on the Rooster?

It didn't work because Cumulus doesn't have any idea how to make it work. Granted, there are better choices, but they live by the mentality of "build it, and they will come." They have no concept about how to nurture a business, and allow it to grow. "Hmmm, what format can we pick this week? Whatever it is, if it doesn't work, we'll just change it. Meanwhile, I'm gonna take a nap."
