After over a decade as "Classic Hits", the Point now calls itself "#1 for Classic Rock". I haven't noticed any music changes to go along with their new positioner. They still sound like a softer version of KKLZ and still play some songs that are decidedly classic hit such as Orleans "Still the One".
Perhaps this change was in response to KQOL switching their positioning statement from "Good Times and Great Oldies" to "Greatest Hits of the 60s and 70s". KOOL stepped towards KXPTs turf (although 93.1 has a far more upbeat delivery style) and the Point in return needed to position themselves as more of a classic rock station.
Or maybe it's simply a case of KXPT trying to freshen things up and improve their (recently) poor ratings. After 10+ years the term "Classic Hits" may have run it's course.
