97.1 WRQQ--What is it???

RQQ has Classic Rock, 90's Rock, Dave Matthews, Scattered AAA Currents and Alternative Currents

I've been trying to figure this station's format out during the "Post-Tower Era" and I still don't have a clue!

I guess I'm saying what do you get when you have the Rock, the Buzz, Lightning 100, and Jack FM all rolled into one station? (not including the Preds hockey)

Someone from "Clear Channel Lite" needs to help me out on this! (mainly because I'm probably not the only one confused)

Wikipedia says it's Triple A. The ratings page said it was rock (last I looked).
'RQQ says they're "Quality Rock".

I say it's a mess---- Although I listen to it
enough.

I say let them experiment. They couldn't possibly do any worse than before.

It is a shame with so much unemployed talent in Nashville, they could hire enough people to cover every shift on 97.1 and 106.7 and give the public something worth listening to on both frequencies, and be successful enough to pay their employees enough that they wouldn't have to apply for food stamps. But Cumulus (and all the corporate competition) will continue to put the cart before the horse, push it uphill and forever wonder what went wrong.

What is 97.1? It's a waste of bandwidth and frequency! Just for the record, it was 10 years ago next week when they first signed on as Star 97. Biggest mistake they made was going oldies after 96.3 went Jack. 97.1 apparently never was able to do oldies as well as 96.3, and has been floundering ever since. They should have stayed Star 97. They were constantly changing and tweaking things even back then, but not to the extent that they are now. They were a solid hot AC as Star 97, but once the "Tower" fell, they couldn't go back to hot AC because V-102.5 was doing it by then, and doing a better job of it, although it would not be long before V-102.5 also changed again! ::)

Back in the early days of progressive radio, before it turned into AOR, the bands and artists that were played on progressive radio were very broad and diverse. You could hear Ravi Shankar to Led Zeppelin Joni Mitchell to Black Sabbath, plus stations often threw in Jazz fusion, blues and Bob Marley was featured. At one point in rock radio did we insist on being so darn focused on a certain type sound or Artist? It seems to me that 97.1 features many types of rock music. I often wished that Radio Lightning would have broadened their play lists to include the full range of progressive radio. Not to trash on them, but they could have reached out to a broader range. Speaking Of Hunter Harvey (previous thread), He worked for Radio Lightning. Hunter pretty much stuck to script over there, but one night I heard him bring out stuff Lightning 100 would not have played. I heard him play The James Gang and Robert Plant. I thought this is how it should sound. JMO here.

ever since the flip to "quality" rock, I've hated RQQ, and i stopped bothering to even pick it up from down here on the AL line.

I have been involved with great stations and then I was associated with RQQ for awhile. I always thought that the only way RQQ could become impressive is if they would staff it and make it real Nashville. It would need to be on the streets. There are so many ways you can become a part of the social fiber and that makes a radio station a community. All of the great stations I have ever been associated with over the years have done that in one way or another. I used to tell former OM Leslie Pardue that they needed to dump Bob and Tom and go balls out with a real local morning show. He agreed. He is also no longer with them.

One more thing....Mac is probably the best straight up human being you could ever hope to encounter as you move through your life.

Dont get me started. Be Well Nashville. I miss you.
