97.3 the Buck, ever heard of such?

Cox radio will do anything to make a "buck, won't they? I was scanning my FM dial and heard WNCB iding themselves as 97.3 The Buck. Cound a flip be in the works at the Bull or ZZK? ;D

So now we have three animal names. The Buck, The Eagle and The Bull. Oh, and The Sports Monster.

This is practically a trend. I foresee a future where all the major Birmingham stations take on animal names.

  • WVSU starts it by taking on "The Bulldog"
  • Magic 96 will rebrand as "The Sloth"
  • Rock 99 will become "The Buzzard" (again)
  • 95-7 Jamz will be "The Kangaroo, your home for hip-hop"
  • Hot 107 plays copycat and lands on "The Toad"
  • Kiss FM realizes they're left in the dust, so they choose "Fly 98.7"
  • WDJC then snaps up "The Dove"
  • WZZK will cave in and change to "The Duck" because the other good huntin' animals are taken
  • WJSR flips to "Amoeba 91" because they're so small no one realizes they're there
  • WYDE will become "The Chameleon" in deference to their every-changing format
...and for some reason nobody wants to touch "The Bear". :D

Are there any possible hints that "97.3 The Buck" may also tweak their format, such as going Classic Country?

-Travis

Me thinks they will.

The new look on their web site and "Moniker" seems to indicate that to me anyway.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. If they do, I hope they'll have success with it.

Sounds like the same 'ol stuff they've been offering...with a new name slapped on it. They're still promoting the station as playing "new country" music. I figured by "buck" they were referencing the term "young buck" (as in young country/new country), hence the name.
