97.3 The Wolf Drops DJ's

Then be more specific. I don't understand the problem with going after the FM with a 10 share.

The problem with that 10 share is it has basically the same age demo as WLW.

Hubbard has proven themselves as a company that sees no problem retaining a flanker that gets a 1 share.

What was it Sir Isaac Newton said about a body at rest?

So, again, what are these current-based formats you suggest? They're already doing Country. Q has MIX as its flanker. You said NO to the idea of Alternative. There are already two Active Rock stations in the market. What format is going to work?

I don't thing WGRR's 25-54 is as bad as you say, but even so, the younger end would be the target.

If they're still playing Elvis and The Beatles, it's pretty old.

Cincinnati's median age is 32. That's 3 years younger than Seattle and San Francisco. Meanwhile radio is targeting people over 40.

It wouldn't surprise me if Hubbard kept WYGY as an unhosted country station, selling it as a combo with WUBE.

gr8, WGRR still plays Elvis and they do "Beatles Wednesday." Not only that, they still play songs that are considered Oldies. They'll play Journey followed by The Foundations or Simon & Garfunkel. I'm also not saying that's wrong. They obviously know what they're doing, but that big 10 share is a big target.

Big A, I agree that Hubbard will probably just keep it the way it is. Maybe that's what works best for them. They can combine the numbers and still be way ahead of the other Country competition in town.

Sounds like a 90s based hits format with early 2000s would be perfect for a signal like 97.3 has. The Drive format would be a great fit as well.

It would be awesome if the 90's/2000's "Gen-X" format worked in the long-term. I personally loved the format (when done right, with plenty of variety) but sadly, we found out it was just a niche/specialty/flavor-of-the-week format in most markets. I really wish it had staying power. If it did, I would agree with you that 97.3 would be a perfect spot for it! I'm thinking a Jack-FM would work nicely on the frequency. I would say alternative, but "The Project" at 100.7 and 106.3 already has that covered, for the most part. Granted, they are just translators, but they surprisingly cover the metro quite nicely.

Folks can get music from Itunes, and a dozen other music source. Pandora, Sirius, etc etc etc They can record it off Youtube. Why in the world would anyone want, or care, to listen to radio for music?

And yet millions of people do. Maybe you should ask them.

So, what would YOU put on 97.3?

Hate to break it to ya - the station is incapable of being a big money maker. If you think the station is going to put on a format to compete with the WEBNs of the world, you're out of your mind.

In terms of Current-based formats, these are basically the options if we're speaking English-language radio:
- CHR (already being done in-cluster at Q102);
- Hot AC (already being done in-cluster at Mix 94.9);
- Country (the failed format currently found at 97.3);
- Alternative (one of my earlier suggestions);
- Active Rock (already two such stations in the market; many cities have ZERO stations in this format);
- Christian Contemporary (already well represented locally);
- Urban (does Cincinnati really need a third one of these?).

Rhythmic CHR is a fake format. It's either a CHR/Pop minus some artists, or in most cases, an Urban station that's afraid to call itself an Urban station.
