97.3 WKBC Modification

I am glad that they prepping to move 97.3 WKBC closer so I can once again hear them clear in Mint Hill, NC. With that being said I guess Norsan Media might move the Monroe 97.3 format to 93.1 and buy that translator and turn in the 97.3 license. I guess the current 93.1 format would move to 94.3.

The coverage area for the proposed WKBC move in does not have an Air 1 outlet except for a few translators. I wonder if EMF would be interested in a more powerful stick for Air1?

Sounds like they might be trying to prep it for a possible sale.

Hmmm, now that's possible. When someone puts money, etc in a station, they're either gonna keep it, or they're fixin' to sell.

Did 97.3 recently change owners, and now the new owner may be looking to sell? Would Radio One be considering a new home for Mix?
I don’t see how this could all be completed before 100.9 and 99.3 sales are closed and Mix is forced off the air or to 107.9’s HD. However I can’t help but wonder if Radio One would be interested, especially with the Mix branding. And they are keeping the WLNK calls.

It would be rough, though, considering all of the confusion with the Mix format and branding since it moved off of 107.9.

I agree with some earlier posts that this looks like a flip & sell strategy.

Wouldn't surprise me if the move only occurs if & when the station goes under contract to a buyer.

If sold one has to wonder if Don Curtis comes hungry. I know they just bought Wilmington but 97.3 is totally different area and would be way bigger than anything Boone or Lenoir brings to the table.

The previous owner, Robert Brown, passed away in November 2025. The FCC application for the move was completed his Son, who currently handles the Estate, I would guess he is probably selling the station.

I agree. When Susquehanna Radio Corp. bought WABZ-FM 100.9 in Albemarle from the Normans for $1 million, they let the family keep operating it under a TBA. Susquehanna later flipped it to Radio One for $11 million, and the signal was moved closer to Charlotte. Realistically, what was Susquehanna going to do with a standalone station in Charlotte? Probably not much.
