97.3

Hmm...nobody must listen to this station because there has been no chatter on this....from the Enquirer:

WAQZ-FM Staff Fired

I'm still trying to nail down all the pieces, but all we know now is that the entire air staff at WAQZ-FM (97.3), the "Everything Alternative" rock station, was fired Monday. Managers are tight-lipped and won't say much more than they confirm the e-mail (below) sent Monday. I'm also told that program director Julie Evans survived the purge.
E-mail also says that the move was made by Entercom, which is buying Cincinnati's CBS station group (adult contemporary Q102, country B105, oldies WGRR (103.5) and WAQZ-FM). Asked if a format change was coming, manager Mike Fredrick said: "WAQZ-FM is everything alternative as of today."
Here's the e-mail from Jim Bryant and Mike Fredrick to staff at the sister stations:
"I’m sorry to inform you that today a bunch of talented and dedicated individuals were let go from WAQZ. We want to recognize the unbelievable amount of work, dedication and creativity these people brought to work each and every day. This team includes:
Jimmy "the weasel"
Sally Vollner
"Notorious"
Razor
Jamie Boyle
Entercom is making changes to the 97.3 product and made this call moving forward. Please take the time to reach out to these people as a friend and co-worker.
We thank each and every one of them for what they brought to our cluster."
--Jim and Mike

I wonder what Entercom has planned for WAQZ? Sounds like they are going to run it on auto piolet untill the sale with CBS goes through. I wasn't aware they are now running things yet.

Entercom takes over November 1.

Most of the people let go were enthusiastic professionals who worked together as a family.

Here's hoping they all land on their feet at a station or in a market that appreciates their talents. Good Luck to all of you.

There are so many freaking rumors as to what is going down right now that I don't know what to believe. What scenerios are people hearing? :D

There have been other changes at Entercom today. WGRR had quite a big mix up...Gone from 103.5 are

Tracy Sunderhaus
Nancy Holmes
Travis Everly

What will Entercom do with WGRR?

There were others let go from the rest of the building...Some good hard working people are in need of a JOB....

I'm predicting that 97.3 will go to a JackFM type format and 103.5 will go Movin with Keith and Laura in the mornings.

Don't forget that there are a number of domains featuring "The Wolf" registered to Jim Bryant

103.5 goes to Cumulus as does it's airstaff, 94.9 goes to Entercom that goes down at midnight, and 97.3? Still a mystery....tune in tonight!

Look for Entercom to put Country on 973 and 949 goes with a rock format similar to what 97.3 was back when they had Stern in the mornings. Who knows if there will be any addidtional changes like Star going to 103.5 which is likely, but the FM dial In Cincinnati is getting worse not better.

since Star is going to Entercom why would Star Possibly go to 103.5. I think Cumulus is ditching Country for Oldies at least temporarly. If Cumulus changes formats on 103.5 it will be for either a Jack or Movin Like format if CC doesnt take Mix in a movin Direction after Christmas. i see if 103.5 or 94.1 if not both go Christmas in the next few weeks one of them is changing

WGRR is calling them selves WGRR oldies 103.5 again if I heard correctly and I did after the second songof cumulus owning WGRR.

Re: WGRR

I called the WGRR request line this morning (Wednesday) and they answered "The Star". They then referred me to 749-9490 to get the WGRR morning show. Hmmm....

"Will it go 'round in circles"?

This a.m GRR's music sounds even more all over than usual-- Rod Stewart's "Reason to Believe" Earth Wind and Fire, "Hearts afire", early Beatles, you name it. You heard correctly, Rob. I too heard them air the "Oldies 103.5" sounder at 6 am. Later in the morning, they are using the lame "Cincinnati's Greatest Hits". Steve Mann and J.D. Hughes, both CBS/GRR casualties from earlier times, sound like the cats who ate the canary.

They are still teasing Chris and Janine and Jim LaBarbara as air talent for the station. Mann was notorious for recording Labarbara on the phone and then replaying the call out of context for comic effect. The halloween call he played with him this morning could just be from last year, hard to tell. They also promoted a live appearance by Coyle on Friday. Some "major announcement" at 7:15 was postponed till tomorrow morning. Are the old GRR jocks on Cumulus payroll or just being used for transition?

Compelling radio, at the least.

Even more interesting is the "new" phone number they gave out on the air over at 94.9 the Star this morning...I believe it was 749-1035.

Re: 96.5

Has anyone noticed that 96.5 is now broadcasting in mono? For the stunting, or a sign of the format soon to come?
