There's nothing like actually hearing it. My wife Joann who is the least critical about radio stations, thought the station was totally annoying. They must have gotten their skewed research back...and it said that their target wanted NO TALk...but the research ALSO said they wanted to hear the names and artists of their favorite songs. Hmmmm. What a baffling conundrum. How on earth do we accomplish both.
I've got it. We'll have a voice...not an announcer voice, but a totally unpolished female voice...an annoying female person between the ages of 18 and 22...like you'd hear coming from the cubicle next to yours...and in the same rhythmical pattern, she'll say only the title and artist...as if you just called to her across the partition, " what was that?'
And musically, we'll play the same music...and even though we'll play records as old as 1974 and as new as Amy Winehouse...we'll call the station "Now".
Their no-commercial workday was so predictable and disturbing, It almost screamed: " play a commercial!!!"
So if the station doesn't generate any commerce 40 prime hours a week, and they have no morning show, where do the revenues come from to keep the station on the air...in spite of the fact that there is no staff.
At least some of these types of stations are just so background that you may forget from time to time that you're even in the presence of a radio...Now 97.5 is a constant reminder that you're in the presence of a radio playing a very bad radio station.
I think I like the first way better.
It's almost a throwback to Drake's Hit Parade 70...the song ends, and you hear " that was Here's To You from Hamilton Camp".
