97.5 Question

How long will 97.5 FM be permitted to simulcast 950 AM by the FCC? I thought simulcasting programs in a major market like Philadelphia is prohibited.

Did a quick search and the FCC lifted simulcast rules back in the 90s. So the simulcast can go on.

I have suggested that 950 air all of the ESPN shows, including Mike & Mike. That would clear Mike & Mike in Philly as required by ESPN.

97.5 needs a local morning show to compete with WIP, IMO. Especially if IP ends up on FM.

I read where Greater Media plans to compete to get Phillies PBP when PHT's contract runs out.

Maybe Mikey M in AM drive eventually and lure Tony Bruno back to Philly in PM. That way, Tony could continue to do his national show as well.

I wonder how much they will split? Friday night, after the Phillies game 97.5 was taking calls about the game, but 950 was airing the Rutgers game.

Talk is cheap. Until Greater Media actually invests the money, I'll believe it when I see it. Radio rights fees can be negotiated creatively (still major money) since there are other options besides terrestrial radio to hear sports. But a GOOD morning show requires the kind of investment I just don't think GM will make. WIP's talent budget alone for its morning show is over a $1 million.

GM invested the money in the P&S show. They even built them a brand new state of the art studio. I belive that GM was supposed to do that for Barsky when he was on Mix 95.7 but, they never did. GM has invested the money on WMMR and has gotten the ratings back on that station.
