97.5 The Fanatic "Major Station Announcement"

Mike Missanelli said that there will be a major announcement about the radio station at 5:15 and how they will continue to be the station they are. Could they be flipping?

Well if he said "how they will continue to be the station they are." I would say probably not, and its just some scheduling mix up, new host/show coming ect. Still worth listening, you never know.

It could be just a spring promotion...or possibly a larger reliance on ESPN Radio than they utilize already. I can't see them making a lot of money with their ratings being as low as they are and the amount of local talent they employ (hosts, producers, call screeners, promotions staff etc.) Maybe pairing down to noon to 6 weekdays and the bird the rest of the time could help control costs a little....

I agree. I think Missanelli is the only host who brings in any decent ratings. I know he was starting to beat WIP when Eskin was the host So it wouldn't surprise me, if this "how they will continue to be the station they are." is them cutting costs by going ESPN all but afternoon drive.

I would hate it if ESPN would be in every time slot other than the afternoon drive. I do like Mikey Miss, but I also really like their other shows. They just got former part-time WIP guy Eytan Shander

Well this basically confirms that GM has no plans of flipping the format in the near future. So hopefully those threads will stop.

No more 4 for 4 spots on WIP I guess, but WIP is probably not that upset, since the sixers bring in the lowest ratings of the big 4 sports.

I think that WIP getting the Phillies has something to do with this. Expect the Flyers to leave WIP after this season too IMO.

Doubt the Flyers will leave WIP. They are no longer co-owned, and if they went to the Fanatic there would be constant conflicts with the Sixers. Outside of the Eagles at the beginning of the season and the Phillies at the end, the Flyers would be on FM for nearly all their games if they stay where they are, which they will.

Kind of odd that the contract with CBS would expire between the regular season and the playoffs.

The new Sixers ownership probably really wanted out of WIP. I think it's because of the conflicts with the Flyers and Phillies.

There may have been an out clause in the contract with WIP concerning number of conflicts. Or, it could have been a mutual parting of the ways. Between the Phillies and the Flyers in the playoffs, the Sixers may have never seen the FM at all during this years postseason. Makes sense for everyone involved.

Oh, I understand why the 76ers would have wanted out. What I didn't understand is how they got out. :)

I hope that everyone is recording the last sixers game on WIP radio. Its on 610 AM right now. I hope someone post audio of the final segment of the radio broadcast here after the game tonight.

Why would it be worth recording? Is "This is the Sixers Radio Network on 610 WIP" really that memorable? Everything except the station liners will sound the same.

Because its the last one after over 20 years on the station. That's a long time.

I'm not going to bother recording it, but I do wonder if they'll say anything about where you can hear the first playoff game.

but people watch basketball they dont sit at a radio and listen too it

so this is just something for the people at 97.5 to create a story

People aren't always home.

People can watch basketball and listen to it at the same time. Especially if it's on FM, and especially if it's the playoffs and the only announcers available on TV are national.
