How Strong Is The Reception For 97.5 Up In The NYC?

I Ask B/C, Here In Levittown PA, We Can Get 92.3 & 104.3, So Im Just Wondering If You Can Get Our Strongest Station There. It Comes From Trenton/Burlington

I highly doubt it, since WALK-FM 97.5 is a regular finisher in the Market #1 Arbitrons...

oh, so you cant get the hawk in NYC?

i guess it fades out in far north jersey somewhere

dang, a bunch of frustrated folks on these boards! He was just asking a question. There are no stupid questions, only those not asked. And, FYI, WALK is not a player in North Jersey at all...what numbers it pulls would be based on LI, Westchester and mabye southern Connecticut.

I'll answer the question: WTHK's signal begins to get spotty up around Elizabeth, where it and WALK fight a bit, although the Hawk tends to win that battle. I'm working from memory here, but I believe 'THK's signal has a slight null to the northeast to protect WALK. I've not driven the signal to Northwest Jersey, so can't tell you about it there.

I certainly didn't imply to come off as such... However, to prove my point:

WALK-FM's coverage map. Got New York City covered - like a blanket. Also appears to reach some of NE NJ.

WTHK-FM's coverage map. Only seems to nip at the heels of SW New York; if you look at both maps side by side, WALK's coverage is stronger in the area.

Those maps aren't always reflective of real listening conditions. Next time you make it to Manhattan, dial up 97.5, and see what you get through the mulitpath! ;). Might stand a chance of hearing WALK in Brooklyn, but I'd doubt many there would try. The Hawk does far better than the map indicates, so much so that there were a lot of pissed 'PST fans in north/central New Jersey when Nassau flip-flopped the frequencies last year (94.5 has real problems in NE Jersey due to 94.7 WFME Newark)

Most of the Long Island FM's don't make it into NYC, because of multipath..those big buildings are hell on FM radio. And, Manhattan is like an electronic wall that makes it really tough to pull any LI radio or TV signal in North Jersey.

Again, don't always trust those maps :)

WALK actually is not a player at all anywhere in NYC. You could get it fairly decently in a car radio or a really sensitive home radio in Eastern Queens or the Bronx, but as others have already pointed out, its numbers in the New York book come from its listeners in Long Island and even Southern CT, which are part of the New York market.

As far as the Hawk, I've been able to get it pretty well in Staten Island, and I was even able to pull it in over WALK in Western Queens (Astoria) many times. Most of the time though it's a mishmash between the two in most areas.

Let's not also forget the pirate station on 97.5 FM from Brooklyn, which does a number on both signals.

It doesn't really make a difference. The Hawk is done in a few weeks anyway.

Greater Media bought the station, and is flipping it to smooth jazz.

yea ik, thats bullshit...they should make 102.9 smooth jazz instead...

i will no longer listen to anything owned by greater media...i hope 92.3 and 104.23 are not owned by them...i can get them in levittown pa where i live...if they are, no more q104 or Free FM either

92.3 Free FM is owned by CBS Radio and Q104.3 is a Clear Channel station. So, keep listening my friend :)

We've got a "Hawk" station out in my neck of the woods on 99.9 (I think they're still WODE-FM, formerly "Good Times, Grate (sic) Oldies" and before that, WEEX Hot 99.9).

My wife's office has it on all day and she tells me you can set your watch by their playlist. It's pretty much the same 20 songs over and over and over. She knows when they play "Behind Blue Eyes" it's almost time for lunch.

WODE was one of the three 'Hawks' Nassau launched, but it's classic hits format is very different from its New Jersey cousins. I've only heard 99.9 a few times, but it does seem to rely on a rather tight rotation of songs, whereas 97.5 is more of a classic rock outlet, one of the better ones in the Northeast, with a nice presentation and an excellent music mix. It will be missed.

yea i agree! egy, i live in levittown pa as well. what the hell is going on with all this crap

yea, some idiots go the idea of turning it into a jazz station, go to 105.7 the hawk, they come in good here.

Why is there a discussion about a station that can't even be heard in NYC on an NYC board?

Eyg... we get it. You don't like Smooth Jazz 97.5. Posting on EVERY board won't bring the Hawk back.
