97.5 - What next?

The format wheel keeps a-spinnin' - what will be next for Merced's 97.5? It's been wall to wall Christmas music for about a week now. What will the new year bring?

Around and around the format wheel goes and where it stops nobody knows

I think they should go back to Oldies or make it a Jack format, but like most stations that go Christmas, it will probably go back to the same format.

1340 will still be FOX SPORTS in Fresno, it's 1400 in Visalia that's going Powertalk, maybe 620 will pick it up.

But 620 has been off the air for a very long time

620 AM will go Foxsports -- only when everyone in Hanford wins the lotto. It is not going to happen -- ever.

Why do you say that, 1400 will leave a void for Foxsports in the Visalia/Hanford/ Tulare market, 620 could fill that, not to many other choices.

Very -- very few Commercial broadcasters are buying -- or even looking at AM stations to buy. IF -- 620 is sold -- it most likely will be to a NON-Commercial buyer. A non-com is not going to run Foxsports. I agree -- sports would be a good format for the Visalia - Hanford market -- but don't count on hearing any new sports station soon in that small market. Calvery Chapel and IHR are the most likely buyers. They don't do sports.

I don't think Calvary buys AM stations at all. If the price was right, maybe Family Radio would consider it, then sell some of its FM properties.

if the price is right they just might

Family Radio is has not purchased an AM or FM in years. 660 in Bakersfield is owned by Calvary Chapel. IHR or Calvary Chapel are the only likely buyers for the 620 in Hanford. The KJUG group -- is not interested in AM. Calvary may trade or sell the Kettleman City FM soon.

K97.5 I knew something was up. That last format lasted such a short time - I can't even really remember what it was they were doing these past few months after dropping the oldies. Well, I haven't listened a lot yet, but, it sounds like kenrayc gets his wish; sounds pretty "JACK"-like, with a good helping of 'goldens' included. I don't think there's any 50s/60s 'oldies' though. But, hey, 1430 is doing a pretty fair job with those. Though, I really can't say that Charlie Tuna adds much. How about a KOKO 94/KYNO1430 simulcast? Cuppa Joe Collins in the morning?
