97.5's COL in Burlington, NJ (not Philly)

This has been driving me crazy ever since they moved to Philly....97.5's broadcast center is in Bala Cynwyd and their transmitter is off of Cheltenham Ave (on Mermaid Lane) in Springfield Twp., Montgomery Co.

Why is their COL Burlington, NJ when they obviously broadcast and transmit from Philly? How does this station "serve" Burlington, NJ when they don't even broadcast nor transmit there? This may have been discussed previously on this board, but I am just curious.

That's about the same logic as a woman being qualified to be Vice President, because her foreign policy experience consists of being able to see Russia from Alaska... ???

If you can take a class B FM station located in Mercer County NJ, and move it to Burlington County, you've upgraded the facility to being a Philadelphia market radio station, dramatically increasing it's stick value.

Burlington County is a metro county of Philadelphia

You should check out SoJo 104.9 then...their office is in Mt.Laurel but their transmitter is in Egg Harbor, and somehow their phone number is connected with NJ 101.5 ;)

they're licensed to burlington from the days when their stick was over there. now that the stick is in PA, you're right, it'd be logical for it to be licensed to PA, but as long as you're putting a listenable 70 dbu signal into the city you're licensed to, you're ok to be licensed to that city. so i guess they figured why go through the legal hassle to change it.

Not completely true....Yes they were licensed to Burlington before the move to Philly, but only for about a year....Before that their COL was Trenton.

Actually, I think SoJo's studios are in Ewing, NJ with NJ 101.5. They have a sales office in Mt. Laurel.

AHHHH Yes, Of course who can forget the TOH Legal ID: WPST, Trenton AND Philadelphia (with the emphasis on the word AND)

Now 97.5 plays Burlington's favorite soft rock from today. It should also air a lot of ads for Burlington Coat Factory.
The transmitter was never in Burlington. It was in Trenton, and then moved to Philly. The strength of the signal in Burlington remained the same. The average person shouldn't care that it's licensed to Burlington rather than Philadelphia.
