97.7 and 99.5

Both of these stations have been trying a modified Jack Format now for over a year. How is the ratings doing for these two.?I'm surprised that one of the bigger stations in town hasn't blown them out of the water, since this type of format seems popular in other cities. Any ideas?

Ratings? Bottom of the barrel. Most of the problem is the fact that they have a weak signal in the metro area, which they have tried to get around by using three sticks to provide coverage. The bigger stations in town really have nothing to worry about as it stands.

The parent company is also known for turning stations into saleable properties anyway. I don't expect that Max will be around in its current incarnation much beyond the next year or two if they follow their usual modus operandi.

Possibly after the updgrade, First Broadcasting will try and unload the properties.

That was my guess, too. I haven't heard anything firm on the transmitter move yet, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's being held up by red tape of governmental issue.

Moving WOXY to Mason (tower site actually around the Monroe/Middletown line) is contingent on WAXZ moving to a new tower near Morehead, Kentucky. Probably just have to get both sites done, as they have CP's for both from the FCC. Both appear to be going on existing towers, but I think they had to slightly modify the Monroe tower to put the FM antenna on it.

A sale agreement for WAXZ already exists in the FCC database. However, FCC approval doesn't mean the sale has been completed yet.

They will likely sell the other two once the move to Monroe/Mason is done. First is a broker type operation that exists only to exploit the allocations scheme to increase station value. The "Jack" format is something that's cheap for them to run to hold the licenses long enough to execute the upgrades and put them on the market.

With signal upgrades, the original WOXY could be pulling better numbers right now. Brilliant move, First Broadcasting.
