Kansas 97.7 KNIU-LP is having troubles

Their signal now apparently only goes a couple blocks before it cuts out... The transmitter is having problems since last weekend and they say it may need to be replaced. That's an expensive undertaking.

Or maybe someone can fix it for them... I don't know an engineer but KNIU is responding to texts. I suggested they reach out to Life 88.5 KJNW and ask for help with the transmitter.

I'm sure they have an engineer they call when issues occur. In this business you don't just call around to other stations for an engineer. And engineers don't do free work. It is how they earn their living. Sure, they might adjust their rate if you're struggling. Engineers tend to be very generous but like everyone else, they need a paycheck.

The fix will involve parts that must be paid for. They may have already been ordered.

You might be right but today when I contacted them through text message, they said their "new tech could not fix the issue".
If I was an engineer I'd check into what is going on but I'm not. This station was off from at least August 2019 to June 2020 or so, and off back in summer of 2018 as well.

This is the same city that has another LPFM broadcasting dead air for longer than the past month now. They're LPFMs, not well-off commercial operations.

They're back on!
It's currently playing Radio Vida from South Texas. Home | Radio Vida

[edit] It went off again since I made this post, maybe they're making repairs... The station may go down and up multiple times.

They have not returned to the air since...

Maybe someone who knows Spanish can call the number on their FCC application and see what's up... I feel like they're more fluent in Spanish since they aired Spanish content. If you ask me though, unless Radio Vida is paying KNIU-LP to air their programming, KNIU-LP should play local programming.

Still no sign of KNIU-LP, wonder if anyone's tried to buy their equipment if they've given up... They might sell it.

KLHW-LP 90.5 has filed for go silent.

Multicultural has experienced technical issues forcing them to go silent, and is seeking a local engineer to help them get back on the air.
Multicultural is requesting a Silent STA as they work to find a new engineer and fix their technical issues.
Multicultural is committed to continuing their public service as soon as possible.
