Does univision still own 97.7? You beat me to the post.

This is probably in response to the latest trend. Cox launched Power 106.7 to bring down The Beat and put KISS at the top. Now Univision has launched 97-7 Rock to try and put The Beat back on Top.

I didn't see this one comming. I thought it would remain a Beat simulcast or go to spanish AC, but this does seem like a response to the trend of KISS knocking out the beat on the top spot. The station sounds like an exact copycat of KISS, hopefully they can add some more innovation. Other rock stations in the past couldn't hack it with KISS around (ie K-Rock and Q96) but who knows? Maybe it's a sign that people just want to rock.

No, KISS isn't sweating too badly, but it may dethrone them from the top spot as mentioned before. I bet the folks in Cuero are just loving their station right about now...er I guess that would be McQueeney now.

Could 97-7 just be stunting?

Posted by: sfradio-I think you are probally right, I don't think univision would launch a rock format

Doubt it. Univision took a page out of Cox Radio play book. For many years Cox has used 106.7(Jamz, Z, now Power) to try and take some numbers for a leading competitor. Now Univision is doing the samething with 97.7. IMO, I think it's a good move for Univision. Besides, what other format is there to put on that frequency, that wont take listeners from one of their other stations?

How do you sell it if it doesn't fit in with the other stations in the group?
I mean how do you pitch it when it doesn't really fit into what the rest of the combo is doing?

I was wondering who this was that I heard early Saturday morning during the tropospheric ducting event. Thanks for the post. Did they just go on the air Friday? This may be their first DX report. Heard quite well from here in Fort Walton Beach, FL using a Denon TU1500RD tuner and directional antenna. 642 miles. I recorded some of it:

In my personal opinion, they mention KISS way too much. Anyone agree???

I agree I think I heard a few comming back from southern Lavaca county, one of them saying you can either KISS or Rock. Or something like that.
