97.7 WZOW in Mono, bad audio.

Does anyone know if the engineer of 97.7 (Goshen/So Bend) is listening to his station? I was in town yesterday and the audio was very, very low and no stereo pilot. Thought it was temporary or maybe my location but 6 hours later it was the same in my car.

Is AMP having some money issues and can't afford to fix it? HA. :)

Sounds like they're having issues. Hopefully, it gets resolved soon. Their sister stations in Lafayette seem to go forever with audio problems whenever transmitter and audio chain issues arise. Not sure whether the aforementioned is the result of budget issues or the engineer having a lot on his plate.

It's been that way at least a month that I know of. It started off with a high pitch noise in the back ground, then the stereo pilot went away and so did the noise. I don't know what they are using for audio processing on WZOW, but I would guess that's the problem (stereo generator issue perhaps?). But again, it's been at least a month or so like this.

U93 went almost a year of sound liking crap a while back before they addressed whatever their issue at the time was. It wouldn't surprise me if WZOW stays this way for quite a while.

Well it looks like they fixed the problem about a week after this post. Sounds much better now. If ONLY they could switch their format to classic rock to compete with the lousy signal/frequency chance of WAOR, I'd be very happy!!!

I had the chance to listen when I was through that area last night. It sounds much better than it did before they had the issue, so my guess is new audio processing. Kinda surprised they got it fixed that quickly.

And going to a competitive personality driven Classic Rock with just a touch of variety would be a GOOD move on AMP's part due to the WAOR frequency flip. People are still upset about that move. I have a hard time believing that won't have long and or short term affects on WAOR. Time will tell I guess.

Despite people being livid about AOR's frequency change they jumped from a 4.1 to a 5.0, WTRC-FM(95.3) hauled in a 6.2, WSBT dropped from a 8.4 to a 5.0 and WRBR went from 4.8 to 6.6 in the latest ratings book.

Well, I have a hard time believing that this last book is a true reflection of all the changes, if it's even a reflection at all. The flip happened May 11th, or something like that, and the book came out just a few weeks later. That's not enough time to determine anything. When the fall numbers come out, that will be a better reflection of things.

Which brings home my point: WZOW is trying to compete against WRBR with no success. Now that WAOR's classic rock format is on 95.7 (which you can't pick up very well), WZOW should sieze on the classic rock opportunity with their better coverage. This market cannot support two active rock formats. Maybe in Seattle, not in South Bend.
