97.9 CPR should upgrade

I think 97.9 CPR should upgrade its signal to the big towers in McHenry either WXXV, WLOX, or WZNF towers just keep the frequence at 97.9 just boost its antenna height for better signal for the Gulf Coast area

The station is a C2 classification, which limits them to 50 kw @ 492 ft HAAT. They're already at max power, and within about 30 feet of max height. They could go up higher, but above 492' would have to drop ERP to put the contours back where they were to start with. I don't see them being able to reclassify as a C1 so it ain't likely to happen.

What's holding them back from an upgrade, exactly — WMXI in Laurel? That's the only reasonable close station I can think of. I don't know of any stations co-channel with them for hundreds of miles, but there's the aforementioned class A in Laurel, plus first adjacents in Baton Rouge and Fort Walton Beach. That's pretty far out.

Well in that case they can put a directional antenna to keep from interefer with WMXI in Laurel but since WMXI is a small station it only cover mostly in Jones County so it should not infect with WCPR signal

Hey all -

In order for WCPR to operate at 100kW, they would need to find a C1 allotment location. Such a location does exist, but only out on Ship Island (which is a National Park I believe, so the FCC would probably turn it down). Their tower does not have to be at the allotment site, of course, but at this time, a fully-spaced allotment site is required. I petitioned the FCC last year to remove this absurd requirement:
