97.9-ESPN in mono?

For the last few days, I've received WUCS-FM 97.9 of Windsor Locks/Hartford (97.9-ESPN) in mono. Is that intentional, so there's less noise with their limited signal? Granted, they're not exactly a music driven station like most FMs are. I'm receiving all of the other FMs in stereo the same way I always have, so it's not my old radio from 2002 acting up.

If you want to find out if it's intentional or not, you'd have to call the station (860) 723-6000. The CE should know by now that the stereo exciter is not on. They're @3400 watts. You probably know that on some LPFM talk/sports stations, they don't broadcast in stereo, as you said there's less noise. The signal might even travel further, as evidenced by 92.1WLNG Sag Harbor LI NY, which for years broadcast in mono & the station could be heard in Hartford and beyond @5300 watts. Recently, they've started broadcasting in stereo.

My main issue with WUCS is that they can't line up the ID with the Yankees broadcasts. That and it seems to fire rogue at odd times.

Mono results in less mutipath and a better signal. There is no need to broadcast in Stereo on a spoken word format. Unless you require it for certain RDS decoders.
