97.9 KXAF

KXAF came back to the air with music the day after that last post with Spanish music... But the post in which I let everyone know was deleted.

Last night though I checked again as I picked it up and it was silent, and today as we were driving down to Corpus Christi a couple of hours ago it was silent.
KGWT however has always been up and running with Country music when I've tuned it in, it's definitely more stable the way they're programming it.

Seriously these people need to look for staff, how hard could it be? I guess if any of you radio folks want to take control of a station call them up, 928-328-1881 and try to set up a deal. I'd personally just do it if one of HTM's stations was in my city...
 
I picked this station up last night for the first time I heard it playing spanish music.
 
I know, no legal ID or anything right? I actually sent them a message last night after I heard it with no station messages of any kind... And KGWT still has that staticy audio problem.
 
I never listened long enough to notice.
 
I heard the most amazing thing on KXAF this afternoon - a Legal ID! In fact, it went as follows:

"K-X-A-M, Alice-San Diego. K-R-I-K, Refugio-Port Lavaca-Victoria. K-X-A-F, George West-Three Rivers-Beeville. K-J-J-S, Zapata. La Rancherita!"

So it appears that all of the stations are in simulcast with KJJS Zapata - or at least that's the plan. Heard regional Mexican on KXAF; can't speak for any of the others. The usual country with a terrible buzzing sound on Bronco 93.
 
Seems HTM must've been told to get their act together... If they did it on their own accord congrats to them. :)
Was it the President doing the KXAF ID?

And I hope they get Bronco 93 fixed soon... They also need to add more variety to the playlist.

No, not the same programming. The stream's playing different music, with gaps between songs. KXAF has no gaps between songs.

Also there seems to be a new ID on it, "KXAF, Ninety seven point nine FM, George West-Three Rivers-Beeville. Puro Radio Amigo".
Not the president on this one, This one has a really thick Hispanic Accent.

Well when I talked to the lady from Hispanic Target Media a couple months ago she said they changed from 80's to Spanish because they "wanted to try something different" so who knows? LOL. Either way they NEED to get someone over there, I've tuned in before and the station's been silent around half the time.
 
Bronco 93 throws out a pretty good signal. I can pick it up most nights here in the RGV. They do need to fix that humming sound though.

And last night I listened to Bronco 93, seems they've added more music as I heard many songs I hadn't heard on it before (before then the playlist was always very limited). Still no legal IDs, and I heard the identification messages go 10 times in a row once. ???
 
Update - now KXAF is rebroadcasting Hispanic Target Media's KUKY in Yuma, AZ.
I checked the KUKY stream, at http://p.freestreams.com/?pid=346. Same stuff.
The ID says KUKY, KXAM, KRIK, KXAF, KJJS, and also WFAJ in NASSAWADOX VA are simulcasting. Looks like WFAJ is also a Hispanic Target Media station.

KUKY is a professional station with staff that seem to know how to run it if the stream proves to be correct. If HTM can get that in Yuma, I'd think they'd be able to at least in one place around Texas and Virginia...
 
So they're apparently airing the same programming on virtually every station that they own. Every one, that is, that's actually on the air. A list of their stations is available at www.fccinfo.com/cmdpro.php?sz=M&wd=800 Scroll down to the "Licensee" line and enter Hispanic Target Media. There may be a lot more on the way, if the ones listed as "NEW" get built.

Excluding KGWT in George West (country) and KALN in Roswell (which also has some staff and is professional-sounding regional Mexican.) Here is the stream to KALN. http://live.str3am.com:2830/

Another station, KXFS in Rankin TX, I have no idea what they're up to or if it's even on the air.
 
I'm wondering if Hispanic Target Media realizes that every station they currently own and plan to build (thanks for link, JD) has to have a main studio in EACH town they are licensed to and each one must be staffed by at least two employees, have EAS, maintain a Public File and each station has to be capable of broadcasting live from its studio even if it is fed via satellite or internet 24/7. That's a lot of hiring and equipping in many very small towns.
 
Sure doesn't seem like it.

Can someone please buy these Texas stations and actually make them into good small-town radio?
 
Is there an advertiser base in all of these towns to support funding good small town radio?
