97 A1A

Hey Guys and Gals:

I remember the old AC station 97A1A in Miami. I thought it was a great station. I used to listen to them when I first started to come to Florida for the summers in the early 80's. Does anybody know when 97A1A started and what was it before? I saw on a previous post that 97.3 was Beautiful Music WIOD. Is that true?

Thanks Again!!!

T.J.

I want to say it started around 1970, but I'm not totally sure.
It flipped to WGTR around 1986 (a rock station), then it became "Coast" around '89 or '90.
WAIA was mostly automated, but it had a really good MOR playlist.

97 A1A "Your Music Way" started in the early '70's not sure of the exact date. It was both automated and live-assist. The music hosts also did a short newscast on the hour. Former WGMA Hollywood news director Ken Roth was the station's first program director.

Prior to this the station was automated beautiful music and known as WIOD-FM.
