97 Rock "Guest DJ" weekend..

kudos..to 97-Rock..for doing a guest-DJ weekend.
No, it doesnt sound very tight or professional,
but there is some thing "exciting" about it..

What is funny:
when a "PRO"/the regular on air talent, talks about "nothing...."
Comments from this board, and to the listener in the car,home..etc,
will say...arrrgh, BUffalo Radio SUCKS...but when "joe
from south buffalo" gets on there and stumbles over a
very easy ECC-Read..i dont know, there is just some
thing that makes it sound.."Acceptable"

these weekend guest DJ's..are the great on the radio?
NO, but they are (to me) what is making the radio great!
-it got this person to listen to 97 rock, when i normally
would not, nor do i fit the demo of a 97-rocker, and yet,
i was listening and even singing songs (heard on 97rock)
later in that day..now, only if i remembered any of the advertisers..

Did any post-er have the chance to do this ?
if so, please..enlighten us all - how was the experience.

u wont hear it much, but
thank you, 97 Rock..

Footnote: was the chance to be a guest DJ free ? last summer,
wedg.com/103.3 did this, but you had to poni up the dough..yes,
$$$ went to hurricane relief efforts, but I am just wondering..
if 97 rock (citadel) charged for this very cool guest dj weekend ?

"..coming up, coming up... "
and the -E- -C- -C- read...oh, wow.
Yes, i know, these are definately NOT polished jocks...and yea,
some do "suck" by general response standards, but this kind-of weekend..
well, i approve !!! with that said, it should Only be reserved for
"once in a great while" kinda thing..

nice job, 97Rock.

Yeah, I'll hand it to 97 Rock for a great on-air promotion that generates lots of buzz. Sounds like the guest d-j's are doing only one hour shifts this year rather than the two hours they got in years past.

Your post (although a mite disjointed) hits the nail on the head as to the station's appeal. But in the end, would you really wanna listen to this stuff for more than a day or two. I mean really?

There are reasons why these guys (and women) don't make their living on the radio. Sure, their wives, husbands, girl/boy friends and relatives will tell them they "sounded great," but the fact is, if they were on the radio in place of Norton, Russo, Slick or JP every day, even their wives, husbands, girl/boy friends and relatives wouldn't listen!

Y'know, it's a little like looking at a three car pile-up on the Youngman as you drive to work in the morning. You slow down, look and make sure it's not one of your relatives. When you get to work, you and your co-workers talk about it for a while, then it's business as usual. You sure as hell wouldn't want to see it every day.

You said it best when you said "'once in a great while' kinda thing."</font>

I think we just got the phonetic spelling of one of the "guess" DJ's delivery from our resident "special" commentator.

Talk about "horrid and gydofful"...

Week End Freak Show

Besides, it makes even the regular part-timers sound good by comparison...

Re: 97 Rock "Guest DJ" Weak End Freak Show

thank you for a reply (an intelligent reply) to this post..
Sorry, the post was all over the place, but I only had
a moment to type my thoughts..and, wanted to stress..
they are not great, but the novelity of the idea is very cool.

I was concerned, if i typed..this "guest DJ" idea is awesome..
and left it at that..well, i am certain the flood gates would
pour open..pointing out the "horrible" efforts by the guest
dj's..and, not the concept-as a whole.

Also, did you notice, "97Rock" themselves were "poking Fun"
at the 'guest Dj' weekend..by having the big-voice guy..
"exaggarate" the words "gueeeest" Deeejay" and vary his pitch to
inentionally sound 'cheesy' its a "guest dj" weeeeekend on 97Rock..

*Only Thing*
I wish 97 Rock..would actually 'tweek' this stunt..and, have "regular"
people come in..say, sat 9am..and "learn" about radio. Have
the professional 97rock staff..educate the 'regular' people who are
DJ's for a day..and actually have them voice track their breaks.

+
this way, 97 rock can sound..just a little tighter, considering
what they have to work with..

+
this can also mean, the "talent" for the 2pm hour(for example) can
be at home, and see how the 'real' world of radio works..

+
counts down on manhours(i am certain the 97Rock-staffer would be salary)but
still makes his job..easy. Can have everyone done between 9am and 11am,
and still be home by 12-noon..

------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will throw this out:
As a matter to debate a topic, is 97rock "jocks" for a day,
better than a jockless 92.9 fm?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Note:
Yes, I agree this "novelity" can be put to a rest..say for
another year*

*Unless, it was focused on..a single HOUR for ONE guest Dj..
say, late night on a friday, or sunday midnite hour.
With this consideration however, it would be a "regular" person
being the DJ..but the "regular" person, may be the intern for whtt..
a regular caller of tom slick's show..some one that 97 rock..could
on a weekly or monthly(or perhaps, the first ____ie: friday of the month)...
and try to attempt to "mold" the [next] air talent..
