97 Rock REALLY steps in it

This is interesting ::::::"Bull" was doing a Santora's read, but it was about 1.5 % either sped up or a higher pitch. I heard this on 103.3 - steal the deal spot.

FYI: Since these guys really screwed up,
my own research discovered " toast " was slang for slaves. whether they knew it or not, doesn't matter. worse, if they did
that makes it that much more worse.
Noteworthy, also found out " picnic " has a very negative origin as well.

True 20 years ago, not today. Fatal mistake.
Blowing up 103.3 for a Country format and moving S&R to an "All New 97 Rock" makes sense to me, which is probably why it won't happen.
Sure even 12 - 15 years ago, when the LISTEN LIVE•was SUSPENDED, while royalties were disputed. . . but today,
nothing is hidden and I have an Alan Cross email anything.... ANYTHING with a decent recording since the 1930's is NO LONGER rare..... more interesting than relevant to the dopes at 97Rock

Sarcasm, right? To quote "Rusty Bridges", that would be using "a shotgun to kill a hummingbird." They blew out the morning show, not the entire station. I'm sure Cumulus hopes The Vibe catches on and steals a few shares from WBLK and maybe Kiss, but you don't give up the highest rated format in your building.

It's pretty normal for the voices of former employees to live on in spots and interstitials for some time after their departure.

I'd love to see a source on you contention regarding "toast." I've been on this planet for a long time and never heard any kind of reference like that.

As far as "picnic" is concerned, check your sources.

Unfortunately, crude individuals have compared Black skin colour to "Burnt Toast" for decades. I'm sure 97 Rock listeners know many more ugly euphemisms.

Lederman said he didn't like "Darker skin colour" and compared it to shades of toast. He also used an archaic slave era word. The whole segment was pointless. It is actually worse if the bit was pre-planned. That means they had time to think about it and still made the ignorant choice...

When I began in radio, it was at an r&b station and I heard all kinds of horrible things said, over the years, to the people I worked with when we'd go for lunch or coffee in what was a very white neighborhood.

I learned from one of my associates that responding was useless; he said "when a dog barks at you, to you bark back?"

"Think" means that they had some kind of intelligence. Obviously, they did not.

But I'll betcha' that more than a few listeners could not understand why the crew was fired.

That's true based on many Social Media posts from listeners. They had no problem with the "Jokes". The Morning Show shared their sick viewpoint.

I remember many years ago (I won't mention the station location) a listener complained about Lenny Kravitz, Robert Cray, John Lee Hooker, and some other artists being on the playlist. He didn't think Black musicians belonged on a Rock station. He "tolerated" Jimi Hendrix because the other two guys in the band were White. Some people still have disturbing issues regarding race...

This doesn't read or sound like syndication is on the way. It does however sound like Shredd & Ragan could fill the bill.

I could definitely see that happening.

Their current slot on 103.3 would then potentially be backfilled with syndicated content - such as two hours of recycled content followed by two hours of live content from The Woody Show, based at KYSR in Los Angeles.

The Woody Show is iHeart. You won't see Cumulus willingly run iHeart syndication.

The goal is not to save money, but MAKE money. Right now, these stations make money, and they want to retain that.

I must say at least with a very few the tables are turned. I worked in a record store when Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry came out. I had a customer demand a refund because the musicians in Wild Cherry were white.

But can't you make MORE money by SAVING money?

Moving S&R to 97 and putting 103.3 mornings on the bird makes the most sense right now.

The customer apparently didn't listen to the hook.

It would turn 103.3 into 107.7. You think that's a good idea?
No it wouldn't. For one thing 103.3 has a better signal and a better presence in the market.
For another, there isn't AFAIK an available local morning show that WNYers know (on second thought, maybe they could reunite Taylor & Moore?).
So since any new show would be unfamiliar - why not go syndicated?

Does it make sense? The people who listen to 97 Rock could have already been listening to the Edge morning show. Which of the 2 morning shows had higher ratings and generated more revenue? People aren't locked into one station all day.

Everything is unfamiliar at first. Seinfeld was not an immediate hit. It took several years to build an audience. Radio is circling the drain for many reasons. One of which is total lack of creativity and banal content. Most of these Morning Zoo shows are indistinguishable from one another...

Well, tbolt, here's your chance to pitch your product. 97-Rock is looking. It's time for you to stop bitching from the sidelines and show them the way to the future. You could end up on the morning show and programming the station if you've got creative ideas that'll bring the masses flocking to you.

Moving Shredd and Ragan to 97-Rock makes sense if Cumulus wants to freshen up their Classic Rock station and change formats on 103.3. Maybe Cumulus will look at WYRK sitting there fat, dumb, happy, and #1 and think "maybe I can get a 3.5 with country instead of another rock format." If that 3.5 comes from WYRK, suddenly 97-Rock is in the mix for #1 12+. In combo, they'd still own men.

Sounds like you are the Answer Man. You defend your precious 97 Rock at all costs. Your logic has The Edge changing formats because the 97 Rock morning show made racist remarks. Brilliant.

Cumulus or Entercom (Audacy) could have launched a Country format years ago. Why haven't they by now? Cumulus could just as easily blow up 97 Rock and shift WHTT to Classic Rock. Just moving pieces around the same Chess Board...

the simple reason you knew what I was talking about with " picnic " even though FALSE, it supports you have at least heard it, or heard of it.... similar to any of the urban legends, you might know not true however are familiar with the background of the story.
fyi - I thank you for showing documentation that says that is false. I was unaware

re: Toast as an inappropriate slang,
personal testimony.

'Bolt... very early in this thread, you made a particularly astute observation regarding events discussed here, but your latest ↑ is just plain obtuse. It's not a matter of "defending" 97 Rock, it's a matter of suggesting possibilities for the morning show now that change is in the air. As to the possibility of having "launched a Country format years ago," events and timing often dictate such a move. The events of late March at 97 and the timing present possibilities that are much different now than six months ago, let alone a year ago. Every setback presents an opportunity. Cumulus may see this as an opportunity to re-define 97 Rock without destroying the foundation of the station. Then again... we may be witnessing the beginning of the station's demise... though I believe the station and format still have legs.
