Jacksonville 970/WNNR off-air

I read that Norman filed a silent notice about its 970/WNNR’s transmitter failing, & I remembered somebody posting that its sister station WVOJ/1570 also having been off the air for over a year. Is WVOJ also off still?

WVOJ has been off the air since mid 2021 and the FCC doesn't seem to care about it. Oh, they were on the air January 31 2024 for a day (to keep the license?) but it was NOT from their licensed location in Fernandina Beach. My guess from listening to them that day that they were transmitting from the co-owned 1160 Callahan site. Sorry, but that doesn't count to keep the license valid..

It counts only if they got an STA. The FCC is lenient with licensed AM stations that resort to emergency antennas and low power transmitters and so forth to stay on the air, but there are limits......
