970 WRKN, Brandon is Back

Well Sorta. Its now WZQK. Its simulcasting Real Country WQST out of Forrest. I noticed it back on the air this morning shortly after 6AM on my way to work. It sounds like they did some needed tweaking at the station. The muddy audio is gone and it sounds much better than it did last december 31'st when it went silent. I listened from highway 49 in Richland all the way to Clinton and the signal was good. All of the commercals are of Forrest area businesses. They ID themselves as 850 country WQST, but occasionally mention 970 AM. AM 970 was still on the air after dark but abruptly left the air around 8:20 PM. As far as I know WQST is daytime only, but WRKN used to stay on the air for a few hours each night. I would hope that the new owners will leave it on because I kinda like the real country format. I haven't been by the WRKN studio lately but the last time I did the tower lights were out and the grass was knee deep. I'm not sure if anyone is at the station or if its on auto-pilot. The station is sounding good but my only complaint is dropping the WRKN call letters, they've been around since day-one back in the sixties. The WZQK call letters sounds like the letters you'd hear on an old album rock station from the seventies.
Edited by Pat2 on 08/25/05 01:54 AM.
