970 WWDJ Hackensack to Become 970 WNYM "The Apple"

I think they should play a variety of Sinatra songs during the stunting period to increase the TSL so that listeners can hear promos for the forthcoming format. Who wants to hear New York, New York every 10 minutes. Former WWDJ listeners are likely to be confused about what is happening now and what will happen in a day or so.

Hey, back in 1996 before WKTU signed on with their Rhythmic CHR format, I wanted them to continue simulcasting their sister stations all day every day.

(Then again, didn't every radio geek? :D )

I could be wrong, and it doesn't necessarily make sense, but that's the word directly from one of the national people at Salem.

Well, if you're right, they wasted money on Mr. Thiele's plane tickets. :D

According to the Salem Corp Web Site, the WWDJ GM Sean O'Neil ..."Prior to joining CBS, he was Vice-President and General Manager of Big City Radio's Spanish Pop station KLYY "VIVA 107.1" in Los Angeles."

So the idea of Salem eventually going Spanish on WWDJ isn't too far fetched....

970 should have gone country---salem runs a country station in Honalulu.

That's funny! WWDJ in fact WAS country in the 60s! Lee Arnold worked there before going to WHN.

Not exactly. It was country as WJRZ. The WWDJ callsign started when it switched to Top 40.

970 will be Spanish Christian preaching.
Kevin Wall is subbing for Bill Bennett while Bennett is off on a cruise somewhere. .Monday morning (8/4), Wall said he would have a major announcement concerning the Bennett show on Wednesday morning.

To me, that sounds like Bennett and the other Salem talkers will finally crack the big apple.

But I guess we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

I can confirm, with some certainty, that 970 AM will, in fact, be an English language news/talk station, starting Wednesday morning at 9am. "The Talk of New York -- WNYM AM 970 -- The Apple"

The line-up will be the usual suspects -- Bennett, Gallagher, Prager, Medved, Hewitt. The one oddity is that Dr. Laura will run 9pm to midnight.

Marcus....I mean Matt Brock is well connected so I'd trust his word on this one.

No oddity at all. Ingraham, Levin, Savage, and Hannity are unavailable, and Dr. Laura has been running on 970 anyway. Makes perfect sense to leave her in there.

The guy at Salem says he was joking. Thanks a lot.... lots of dollars sent his way for bad information.

Even Ingraham could possibly be available. WABC is a great clear, but it's on a 13-hour delay and her biggest markets are mostly Salem stations. Salem could make a case they deserve her in NYC. Of course, someone ought to pick Beck up, but don't count on Salem. 6.5 million people have to be wrong.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Ingraham ended up on 970 with a live clear. But does TRN want her on the market's top-rated talker in late-nights, or live on a new startup?

How does ABC/Citadel feel about Ingraham these days? If you believe the rumors, she was talking to them at some point about expanding her syndication, on the premise that Hannity could have been leaving ABC...which, of course, didn't happen with the ABC/Premiere deal.

It's about time. That's going to fill a much needed void, because what this country and this city need is more right-wing shoutfests. Just the thing to help us all get along and progress as a community.

Now, now... we did have Air America shout-festing their message too... its just that no one cared to listen. I guess we can only "get along and progress as a community" when we all have your viewpoint as to what the "community" should be. There's plenty of room on the AM dial for anybody to talk. The public just has to want to listen enough that the advertisers notice and buy time.

Right.
And no one can dispute that more than 1/2 the voting population identifies more with the positions of the Democratic party.
It's just that most people aren't all that interested in AM talk radio.

That's a preposterous statement; AM talk radio is doing very well in tons of markets across the country, and has been doing so for over 25 years in some of them, including LA, SF & St. Louis, just to name a few.

Indeed it is doing well in some older demos. (Listen to the spots.)
But as I said, most of it is unattractive to about 1/2 of the populace.
What is "preposterous" about that?
Republicans may like AM talk radio, but, obviously, Democrats prefer to listen to music, news, sports.

And who is the "Independent" candidate for President?
(Jesse Ventura? Hulk Hogan? Howdy Doody?)

What is your issue?
Why so adamant, fanny?
We're in a close election race.
About 1/2 the people wouldn't be listening to conservative talk.
(And not many are listening to Air America.)
So, using a little tool called logic, Democrats/Obama supporters are listening to other radio formats.
Anything wrong with that? ;)
