But, to capitalize on your earlier point, the programming sucks I'm sure you mean the conservative bent, but I mean it's overall homogenization and lack of locality. What point is there in DX'ing the same syndicated fare you get on your local station?
I enjoy Rush. I don't need to sit outside with a small transistor radio, pointing the antenna through trees while raising one leg just to hear him on a station six states away. I have iheartradio for that. Or tunein. Or radio.com.
I'm sorta sad to say that. I used to enjoy DX'ing. It's just lost its allure now. The stream to your portable device is much clearer than staticky distance radio. Technology makes the world shrink, and hearing signals from across the nation or the globe is sadly no longer impressive to younger people.
(I also used to use a shortwave receiver to pick up BBC. But it comes through my smartphone now. I think I can even get the in-country signals. I don't just have to listen to World Service.)
