98.1 FM

I hear California's K-WAVE on 98.1 now in Vegas--this frequency used to have, I think, one of the stations from further downriver on it--Bullhead? Kingman? Lake Havasu? One of those.

97.9 is Lucky 98 in Bullhead City. It's licensed to Needles, CA put I believe the transmitter site is in Oatman, AZ. It comes in in places around Vegas and Pahrump.

That's it, Lucky 98. I remember being up about 8000 feet in the Mt. Charleston area, FM DXing and getting all kinds of stations from down there. 97.9 is also KNLB's Vegas translator.

You can pick up 97.9 on the road to Sandy Valley just past Goodsprings. Right in that pass, knlb translator is shadowed and AZ comes in.

I hope this isn't too confusing... I listened briefly to 98.1 on Wednesday. The 98.1 FM signal is a religious formatted station. I don't know where it is coming from, but my guess is West (maybe from Pahrump vallley or from a repeater). It has very good coverage into Las Vegas. The religious formatted station announces that they are part of the KWAVE network. Please note that the station discussed earlier is from Bullhead City area is Lucky 98 on the FM band at 97.9 FM and plays rock music. The religious formatted KNLB is the dominant station in Las Vegas. The Lucky 98 signal comes in around Railroad Pass (Henderson) as you head south toward Boulder City, NV and then East to Hoover Dam or South to Laughlin, Bullhead City. Second note: There was another station that used to come into Las Vegas/Henderson area from the Northeast from St George, Utah. It was formatted as SUNNY 98.1 and was a soft rock/pop station with the likes of Delilah. The religious station overlaps the St. George station in Las Vegas. I'm not sure if the Sunny 98.1 is on the air, because I can't pick it up in the Southern Las Vegas Valley area. (There is a new soft rock station from St. George at 101.5 and maybe they just moved up the dial making the religious station appear louder/clearer in Las Vegas.) I hope this helps! :)

That 98.1 in St. George is KREC licensed to Brian head, UT...its a boomer, a full Class C. It's between St. George and Cedar City and part of Cherry Creek's group. The 101.5 is Cherry Creek's competitor Canyon Media (see 99.9 and 95.9 St. George; Kent Frandsen). That's the old Pioche, NV license that was moved. H...listed as licensed and silent as of early August 2011...wonder if somebody forgot to file a letter with the FCC that they had returned to air???

This translator was originally 106.9 FM from CSN, it came back on the air on 98.1 in 2010 as a simulcast of KWTH in Barstow, just after KWTH broke off the Living Proof Network (KWTW Bishop). KWTH then operated as a simulcast of Penfold's KRTM Radio Network for a brief time before being taken over by Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, and made apart of the new K-Wave Radio Network with KWVE-AM 660 in Bakersfield (was previously a different Christian station broadcasting in Santa Maria, CA but moved to Bakersfield and sold to Calvary Chapel), KWDS 89.9 FM in Kettleman City, CA (originally apart of the Horizon Broadcast Network which went off the air due to financial difficulties), KWVE-HD2 107.9-2 in San Clemente (basically giving people with an HD radio the option to listen to a commercial-free version of K-Wave).

There's also a translator on Clark Mountain (Mountain Pass, CA) where KHYZ used to be located. Originally, it was also apart of the Living Proof Network at 104.7, and was apart of the deal with the sale of KWTH. Then after being sold again to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, they switched it to 105.3 FM since KRSX in Yermo (formerly Barstow's KIISFM simulcast 1998-2001) went silent and moved down to the Twentynine Palms area.

Calvary Chapel, Penfold Communications, and CSN had a 3-way falling out. I won't get into the specifics.
