98.1 Kiss FM Format

I give it a few more months until 98.1 Kiss FM becomes an all-80's station. Anyone agree?

They're not changing anything. Their current incarnation is less than a year old, they're doing exactly what they were designed to do -- capture the target demo without cannibalizing sister station Oldies 103.7. Bonus: They're the most entertaining commercial station in town right now.

I'm with Mike, they're not changing...

The station has lost it's soul. I do find the presentation good, though. Too bad it had to be Kiss.

They have starting to play some more songs from the 90s, even the mid-90s they last couple of weeks. I doubt they are going to go all 80s.

This music station is a train wreck, they are still going thru their identity crisis ever since 2009. Just go back to Today's R&B and Classic Soul Tag. Instead of "The Bay's Old Skool R&B".

First it was, "The beat of the bay, remember they were playing Justin Timerlake, Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and Black Eyes Peas, then they were playing 70's R&B music from the Chi-Lites, the Switch, the Temptations, Glads Knights and the Pimps, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, then envolved into 80s pop and new wave music such as, Ah-Ha, Spandau Ballet, OMD, Tears for Fears, The Eurythmics, Culture Club, Cindy Laupner, Madonna. Now, they're playing New Kids of the Block, Janet Jackson (early 90's), and SNAP.

I like the old 98.1 KISS-FM pre 2009, where they play some today's music mixed with hits of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90s.

Looks like whatever they're doing is working pretty consistently. While I also miss the original R&B and Classic Soul era, that also got them down to 20th with Adults 25-54 in the PPM World. They're now consistently in the Top 10 in the lucrative adult demo, so I'd bet they're pretty happy.

I like the station. When not listening to talk, I flip between 98.1 and Sacramento's V101.1.

I love the 80's at 8 and Fridays all 80's. It reminds me of the old Movin here in LA before the flip to Exitos. They even sound better than KHHT.

I like the change, too. I'm an old fogey who grew up in the 60s and 70s, so the original "Classic Soul" - primarily 70s based format hit all my nostalgia buttons. By the 90s, I was in my 40s. But there are only so many times I can hear I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Let's Stay Together, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, etc.

Between the Classic Hits stations, KOIT, KISQ and KBLX, all those Motown and Soul'dies were burned to a crisp by about 2003. I'd rather hear something newer.

I doubt the 70s hits will be totally abandoned, though. I was listening to 103.7 the other day. Though a lot of 80s hits are mixed in, they still reach back as far as the mid 60s frequently.

I love their mix of music too, and I grew up in the 70's and 80's. If I hear something I like, I write down the song, then download it later for my podcast.

<whispering> Just between you and I, I write in a notebook perched on my steering wheel. 8)
