Mike said:Kiss is playing a very interesting mix right now -- '80s-centric, with a surprising amount of "rhythmic" white artists. Not just Madonna, which you'd expect, but blue-eyed-soul-ish New Wave stuff like Culture Club and Spandau Ballet. They're very entertaining to listen to at the moment.
I know they've been using the "Kiss" brand for a long time.e-dawg said:Has anybody notice their new KISS logo looks like the old Los Angeles MEGA 92.3/100.3 logo and Mega 100.1 in Stockton? What do you think about this logo?

I was always surprised about that since their other "Kiss" stations are CHR.
Makes perfect sense. I guess KISQ has been using that brand a while now, prior to CC purchasing them. For the life of me I can't remember when 98.1 signed on a Kiss-FM. At the end of the day it doesn't matter, just curious.Lkeller said:stewie said:I know they've been using the "Kiss" brand for a long time.e-dawg said:Has anybody notice their new KISS logo looks like the old Los Angeles MEGA 92.3/100.3 logo and Mega 100.1 in Stockton? These cookie-cutter brands ("Star," "Kiss-FM," "Mega...,", "Movin'...", "The Wave," etc.) - are used in different markets for different formats. I believe Clear Channel came into ownership of the "Kiss-FM" brand when they bought KIIS-FM in LA...1990s probably. But there are some "Kiss" stations not owned by CC, probably because they were already using the brand on their stations, and were 'grandfathered' in, so to speak. I believe Clear Channel's CHR "Kisses" all use the logo design originated by KIIS (LA).

Check out this 1986 KMEL clip. It exactly matches up with the playlist of KISQ.

Check this clip too the Kiss-FM brand was used in the Diablo Valley back in 1991 and was also used for 990AM but it was under the AC format the same way that 92.1 KKDV, KKIQ and KUIC are today.
Ahhh yes, K-Big, completely forgot about that. As for AM/FM, I thought they did a fairly good job of running stations back in the day.Lkeller said:stewie said:Makes perfect sense. Before CC purchased 98.1, it was not Kiss-FM, it was "K-Big 98.1" - 60s, 70s, and 80'c Classic Hits - call letters KBGG, and KABL-FM before that. In fact, I think CC kept the K-Big format for awhile before flipping it to Kiss and the "Classic Soul" (Old School format - can't remember if it was 1997 or 98 - but around there, in any case.
Clear Channel acquired 98.1 when they sucked up the stations owned by the AM/FM Corporation.
SFStatic said:L Keller, you're memory is not correct. I had jingles sung as KISS-FM at KKIS in Concord. We later split 990 off as a regular AC and went Hot AC on KISS-FM. This is long before 98.1 even became Big 98, let alone KISS. BTW, the jingle package was TM's Madison Avenue II, and it was around 1990-91.
SFStatic said:Actually, it was B-98 first, and was more AC. Big 98.1 was first 'the Biggest Hits of the 70's, All the Time.' Later, it morphed into 70's & 80's. A new GM came in, and decided it should be K-Big, like LA, so a new version of the jingles was sung that way, and new liners voiced. The Big 98 logo with the abstract guitar was by far the coolest compared to the B-98 and Big 98 marketing. (BTW, even the biggest hits of the 70's was a gloss...music was played from about '68 to '82 even then.)
