98.1 The Maxx--

I admit, I haven't heard Drake and Zeke in the morning, so I have no comment about them, but how is 98.1 doing in the ratings? I had occasion to be in Memphis during the middle of the day today and heard several breaks of "Jarman."
I recall him as being like the fifth testicle (tim 1.5, dog 1.5, bev 1) in olden days of Rock 103, and was pleasantly surprised by what I heard. There was a funny parody song called "My mouth won't open" (like Arms Wide Open) and he really cheesed off on the Creed guy. It was funny. Jarman said when he sang, it sounded like his butt later in the day on January 1st or something.

Anyway, I was gonna scan around and listen to some other stuff, but I didn't. How are his ratings in middays?

It sounded pretty good to me, and I dunno if I caught a great day or a bad one or what. Made me wonder how 98's doing there and overall. I guess I haven't been paying much attention.

All I know is their Saturday and Sunday afternoon guy is KICKIN.

heh heh.

Oops. Damned screen name.

IMHO the times I have heard Jarman I have thought he was a perfect fit for the format. He has an ability to sound like he is coming from the perspective of one of the listeners, and a good story-teller style. As was preached in the old days, Jar is able to "talk to" instead of "talk at".

My sister said the latest ratings shows them pancake flat. Maybe they should call them selfs the minimum from now on. they still sound better than rock 1.3....
My heart hurts for the loss of Mr. hayes.....my dad traveled with them on the road in 1980. First Bernie Mc and almost mr freeman and now ike..later rd24u

Boy I am on a gripe fest today, lol. I still like Drake and Zeke, though their show at times sounds like it is going through the motions these days. But I am a huge Drake fan. I loved the Max when it first started up. They had deep album cuts, a variety of bands, etc. Now, it's playlist is as bad as 103's, I can't take hearing the same songs over and over again. I rarely listen to them anymore.

I've never been fans of D&Z even at 103 but I did like the wider range of music when MAX first began but as you stated, that went down the tubes. So if I'm listening for the morning personalities, I gotta stick with Bad Dog -- the boy doesn't have to say a word, just breathe deep and give that belly roll laugh and I'm a happy girl.

they are the number 1 rock station now....

Even better, I bet The Max is dooling over when PPM arrives in December. There are much more rock fans than the ratings show.

and you misspell/grammatically error/drug induced say that based on....?

It's always a cheap shot to rub in text errors when making a point.

All I'm saying is in other markets where PPM is already in place, Urban stations have lost share and Non-ethic formats have gained. Particularly Rock. It's even come to the point where Minority owned broadcasters are suing to block it.

You are also not supposed to start a sentence with "and." Did you pay attention third grader?

I heard they don't get along. Drake takes over the whole conversation and Zeke is pissed and can't stand it. And the author interviews drive people away in droves....wait till the PPM.

ppm is only gonna boost their ratings....urban radio is gonna take the dagger.

That seems unlikely. They have worked together for years and I think they play off of each other well. I guess you never know. I think Drake and Zeke are terrific and always have been. It is interesting how the show has changed. I remember years ago they used to goof on deejays who put listener's calls on the air etc and now they do a lot of it. I do think re-airing them at night is a bit of overkill for my own tastes. I would prefer just to hear music.
