98.1 The New K-D-D

I never knew they rebranded as Akron's Hit Music with an Adult CHR sound. They're not doing too well in the ratings, but they sound good! What do you guys think?

I'm out of the market but doesn't this station have signal issues?

They should never have moved it off of 96.3 or 96.5 (?)

Those signal issues will mostly/nearly entirely be gone soon, whenever 98.1 scoots up to the old 96.5 location in what is now Cuyahoga Falls (used to be Northampton). That move is coming soon.

Right now, 98.1 is out in Hartville. The new signal from Bellaire Lane won't be identical to the old 96.5 signal, since it's on a different frequency with various issues that 96.5 didn't have, but it will be functionally equivalent for the Akron market.

More on the Cleveland board....

Limited compared to what?

CC is trying to make this an Akron station, and even counting dealing with both 98.5 and Akron's own 97.5, the new signal will succeed in that.

Again, not the exact equivalent of 96.5 from the same site, but a darn sight better for Akron than the Hartville signal is.

There is also grandfathering here, which Mr. Fybush can explain if he's around this board...

I just thought that moving them closer to WNCX's signal would cause them to have to reduce power to avoid interference. I remember 107.9 in Delaware County couldn't move their tower any closer to Columbus because it would have caused interference to Power 107.5 (according to Jason Roberts who worked for 107.9) so I was only asking. I will have to check out 98.1 once their move is complete as I can't pick up the station very well from where it is now.

Indeed I can! In a nutshell, there's no spacing issue between 98.1 and WNCX because both signals have remained short-spaced to each other since before the current spacing rules were adopted in 1964. If it could clear other spacing issues (it can't), there'd be nothing stopping WKDD on 98.1 from moving all the way to Parma if it so desired.

"I remember 107.9 in Delaware County couldn't move their tower any closer to Columbus because it would have caused interference to Power 107.5"
That was not the reason... it was IF interference (happens between stations that are 10.6 or 10.8 mHz apart on the dial) with 97.1. This is one issue that you have to space the stations according to the rules.... no mutual waivers or grandfathering.

107.9 in now licensed to Westerville, though I cannot say whether Franklin or Delaware County.

Westerville is just barely in Franklin County, but it appears 107.9's transmitter is still just south of Delaware (along I-71).

I live in the Westerville School District, well inside Franklin County. Two of the three high schools are in Franklin County, and the third is just over the Franklin-Delaware county line.
