98.1 The Ticket Changing

I have a VERY limited amount of information but i do know that the 981 The Ticket will not be sports for much longer

Whats the new format going to be? There still sending a mono signal. I assume when the stereo switch gets flipped on, it will be near.

Rob

Cumulus or Qantum?

If Hale is really after WGCX, as posted in the other thread, then one could assume the deal with Cumulus has died.

Everyone knows that Cumulus wanted it for country, but what would Qantum do with 98.1?

Let's see how many Country stations this area has:

94.9 (which can be heard in Destin)
98.7
102.7
105.5
104.7 (mono but stereo carrier - he needs to flip that off)

"All the legends and your favourites from today" seems to be the current theme.

(did I miss any?)

This area has enough of them.

Rob

Contrary to that info, someone in the legal field told me today that the transfer of 98.1 FM to Qantum will likely be 1-2 years away, after the appeal process is heard. So, it looks like nothing is moving fast. And, Hale has announced that he will move the sports programming from 98.1 to 100.5 when the transfer finally does happen. Just FYI.

So the 100.3 will become sports? at least this will give the rock more coverage. Maybe more of a local flavour.

Rob

Please keep us up to date on this situation.

I just thought of a format for him: DIVA 98.1
I heard 92.3 come in this morning with such a format. They played good music (targeting women) I think that's a New Orleans station coming in via FOG and or DUCTING.

Tuned into it just now and only heard 92.1 out of Destin bleeding in with crappy music.
Damn, it was a strong signal.

Rob

Heard today that 98.1 switches to Qantum FWB on August 1 and they are going to keep it sports/news talk. One of the sales reps at Qantum said they are going to try to bring the on-air personalities from 98.1 currently over, offering them new deals. Just what is on the street.

That rumor is wrong. Take it from me, Qantum is going to shuffle their frequencies. Wave is going up to 98.1, Mix is moving to 102.1, and Fly92.1 will become Fly103.1. That will free up 92.1 to become a a Hispanic station which doesn't require as big a coverage area.

Just how big is the Hispanic population in the Destin area? If they want to go the ethnic route, it seems that some type of Asian format would be more viable.
And why move Mix from 103.1 to 102.1? They have similar coverage areas.

I think you are right ... looks like sports/news format moving to 100.3 FM.

Lots of illegals in this area. But this area doesn't need a station like that. This is mainly for tourists and hasn't been truly busy after Ivan.

Rob

Forgot to mention.. what about a LITE mix format?? or do you all think 93.3 rules that domain?

Rob

Does anyone think that Qantum might just sell the station to Cumulus after they acquire it?

Assuming Star Broadcasting manages to stay in business through all this, why not just keep rock on 100.3 and sports on AM 1400?

Perhaps the biggest unknown here would be, who will pick up Sports talk in Pensacola?

a. No, not unless they're masochists. Qantum needs a big stick to be competitive. They're already getting beaten like a drum.

b. That would make sense.

c. Will? Not sure. Should? 1450/WBSR. Not a huge signal, but solid coverage of Pcola, day & night. Someone please tell them that music on AM is over. That's why they're pulling zeros.
