98.1 // WZBR AM

As of yesterday, I checked from Beverly: just before 11 am on 1410, foreign language talk show then station ID for both WZBR 1410 and its Medford translator, with "A Langer Broadcasting station". Into more foreign language. At another point I was getting the 98.1 translator mixed with the country FM from New Bedford, WCTK.

Rapking on radioinsight mentioned the Urban Heat streaming was still up. The site has 98.1 as part of the domain name but apparently it's not running on 1410 and 98.1.Unless at some points they break apart from Urban Heat to run brokered programs?

Urban Heat is not on 1410/98.1 at all anymore. Lately it’s just been a simulcast of WSRO.

It appears that the “Urban Heat” format is back on 1410 and 98.1 after nearly a year of simulcasting WSRO.

There’s a severe stereo phasing issue on the 98.1 translator. Most of the audio (anything common to both channels) cancels out in mono. 1410 AM sounds OK so it must be a phasing problem with the stereo hookup to the translator.

98.1 does not appear to be on the air today.

I'm receiving the 98.1 translator now here in Somerville, but the stereo audio is still out of phase, so if your reception isn't strong enough to get stereo, you may not hear much of anything. Almost all of the audio is cancelling out in mono.

It's low power (130 watts) and extremely directional, nulled to cancel to the south and west from the Medford/Malden line. It gets the eastern Mystic Valley (Medford, Malden, Melrose, Everett, Chelsea, etc...) and the lower North Shore (Saugus, Revere, Nahant, Winthrop, parts of Lynn, etc...), but it's weak here in Somerville just two miles south of the transmitter, very spotty in Cambridge, and pretty much gone across the Charles River in Boston proper.

The Boston urban neighborhoods can hear the 1410 AM in the daytime (only the southernmost few such as Hyde Park, Mattapan and West Roxbury at night).

I guess I'm null'ed out but I'm in Medford looking at the tower and not getting a peep...?

I can barely hear any audio due to their stereo phase cancelling problem. I can just barely tell that the signal is there, and that what little I can hear matches the music on their 1410 AM.
