98.3 JACK FM/WGCO's Website Now Has An Oldies 98.3 Logo!

[From All Access]

WGCO
ADVENTURE RADIO Adult Hits WGCO (JACK-FM)/SAVANNAH flipped back to "OLDIES 98.3" today (3/16). The station had flipped from Oldies to JACK in OCTOBER 2005.

[please attribute sources when using them in post]

The jocks on Rock 106.1 mentioned on Wednesday that the old PD Chuck "Boom Boom" Cannon was protesting on Abercorn, to get Oldies 98.3 back on the air in Savannah!! Looks like it did not take him to long to win his fight!! To bad 107.9 is now playing most of what Oldies used to!! What will become of 107.9?? Any thoughts??

Wow! This is a shocker. How is it sounding? Same as the previous Oldies run? Can't wait to hear it when I go through Savannah next week.

Now if WLOW would only get back to playing the Standards!

It sounds great! I've noticed some new imaging done by a different voiceover guy sprinkled in here and there but for all intents and purposes, it sounds just like it did before the JACK FM format flip. They're still using the same voiceover guy, the "Good Oldies All The Time - Oldies 98.3" intro sweeper and their positioner is still "Good Times Great Oldies - Oldies 98.3". They're also airing a spot in between the songs that states something along the lines of "Thanks for bringing us back. You told us you wanted to hear your favorite oldies on your favorite station and we listened. Thanks again for all of your support and dedication to Oldies 98.3!"

That's what I'm curious about as well, minordistortion. How can 107.9 The Coast and Oldies 98.3 co-exist? They'll eat each other alive. Anyone have any ideas what WLOW will do, if anything? If Triad keeps WLOW as 107.9 The Coast, it's not going to give Oldies 98.3 the desired bump in the Arbs next time. Plus, as you stated, they're pretty much playing the same songs, save for some soft rock songs on 107.9 The Coast.

Thoughts?

Between this move and WGZR, seems Triad is really doing some housecleaning before the Spring Book.

This doesn't seem like a bad move, assuming word gets out to WGCO's former audience that the Oldies are back. I'll never fully understand why the move to Jack went down in the first place, but I suppose it's mostly water under the bridge at this point. Having said that, this certainly puts the future of The Coast in question. I wonder if they'll scrap the Soft AC/Oldies hybrid format and maybe move back to Standards? Maybe a mainstream/more current AC? Modern AC (think Wave 106.9 before it switched with Gator)? The Real Kiss 107 dot 9?

Personally I'd like to see them resurrect the AAA format and flip 107.9 The Coast to AAA as Wave 107.9. If they marketed the hell out of (meaning more advertising than just billboard and print) it, it would do pretty well. I really miss having the AAA format here in Savannah. Q105.3's nice but it's not the same, that's for sure.

WGCO Went to Jack because Jack was "the thing" then. Oldies Stations all over the country were getting Jacked a monkey see monkey do thing. Now if this can happen here I wonder if the big heads at CBS Radio can Follow this and reincarnate the Mother of Oldies Stations WCBS 101.1 NYC

If they do, they might try making it sound more like Oldies 98.3. CBS-FM, in its final days, was a pretty crappy oldies station. The last time I heard Oldies 98.3 (August 2004) it sounded great!!!

Don't forget WJMK in Chicago was an oldies station that CBS flipped to Jack FM. It looks like CBS is committed to Jack in New York and are trying to tweak it by adding personalities.

I think this was a very smart move on Triad's part. Given that it always did well until the flip to Jack, I've always been puzzled why they did that in the first place. They probably just wanted to jump on the bandwagon I guess.
Now what I'm puzzled and curious about is...how does Triad expect 107.9 The Coast, Oldies 98.3, and 103.1 The Drive to co-exist? They'll eat each other alive. I don't know much about 103.1 The Drive, but if it's like most other classic hits stations, there will be some overlap between it and Oldies 98.3. Same with 98.3 and WLOW. I just can't see them keeping things that way for long, I guess I expect the most changes to be at WLOW. They should just go back to Standards, I'm sure the audience is there...WLTQ-AM, which is way up in Charleston has always gotten decent numbers even down in Hilton Head.

hey, guess what! after all the griping about jack fm, we STILL have the hard drive with the same four oldies on it! And we are going to reverse our dumbass choice and give you the same four oldies again!

Well, if it pays the bills, who can blame them?

That's an old radio stunt, he didn't "win his fight." What a waste of money, Adventure should've never changed the format and messed with a heritage station. I guess they learned their lesson the hard way. What a bad decision. Congrats to Boomer, glad to hear you're back on the air!

I know I did not make it obvious, but I was a tad bit "sarcastic" with the "win his fight" comment!! I agree they should have never touched Oldies to begin with!! Working in that building for a few years, I remember producing the doo-wop show for Gus D. Oldie...... That station had the most loyal listeners, who loved the on-air staff, and would show up for any remote they would have!! They could have been broadcasting live, in the middle of the woods....and people would have showed up!! It will take a while im sure, for all of the Oldies listeners to realize they are back on the dial!! I remember when I left the Savannah market, and read that they flipped Oldies to Jack!! I was wondering what in the world they were doing??

Anybody know the jock line up?? Is Debbie Bolton doing mid-days?? They should bring back "Big" John as well!! Anybody know anything??

There are no jocks. Debbie moved to AL, so don't look for her to come back. Right now I think it is just music.
