98.3 KKFR - 92.3 KTAR-FM

C'mon, Akbar: the punch line is too obvious.

Yes. Agreed. Revenue aside, I do hope that KTAR can make a mark on the FM dial with some actual ratings. KTAR on FM?? If someone was going to listen to KTAR, why would the fact that they are on FM make any difference? IMO, Free FM is simply not working so I am wondering what will be so magnificant about KTAR on FM? New Line up? One would hope, because for me, KTAR is nothing more than a spot to tune into for a traffic report. Eyes and ears are on this one....

I bet if you talked to a lot of news/talk PD's, they'd tell you their future is on FM. But this CBS "Free FM" experiment isn't helping their cause. It's poorly conceived, it won't do well, thus many GM's/owners will point to this and say "See, FM news/talk doesn't work." I don't suppose that KTAR-FM will be programmed exactly like KTAR-AM of today, but let's say it is, when the transition period ends, the FM version will have a lower AQH but the demos will be greatly improved. Simply because most people under the age of 100 don't hang out on the AM band. I think KFYI is a well thought out, focused radio station. But I'd be concerned about being the only real player left on the AM field. This is going to be a fascinating story to watch.

once you've heard 20 minutes of free fm, you've heard everything that free fm has to offer.

talk radio about getting laid while rippin' a hit off the bong gets old, fast.

Buddy Ryan, 1994. Or was that Vince Tobin? Or Joe Bugel? Or Dave McGinnis? Or Dennis Green?
AM or FM, the Nurse and I think KT'R's got a winner in town! Go Big Red 6~twenty and 92 punto tres. Estamos listos para usted.

I'm sure it was all of them and more. The essense of my post was the pending call-signs. Perhaps no one cares for accurate information as no one has emailed me.

But you have to wonder if KT'R will start to suffer from "suburban town COL
syndrome" when they move the N/T format over to 92.3, since the legal ID
will be "KTAR-FM Glendale" (although it's a given they will announce it as
"KTAR-FM Glendale/Phoenix" which is perfectly legal).

Maybe a sound effect strategically placed over the middle of the ID track
along with a lowered voice level, resulting in something like:

"KTAR-FM (SFX) Glendale (SFX out) Phoenix"

I vote for the old Hitparade '69 music bed, followed by Chuck Boozer doing the imaging.

Remember him? 10p-2a on KTAR-FM and KBBC inthe 70s.

Nice guy, let me sit in the booth one night in late 1975. His young wife had one month earlier been killed in a head-on on Pima Road. He was so nice, so composed. True story, very sad.

But wait, Glendale is now as important a part of the Valley as Phoenix. They can open a satellite studio outside of Cardinals Stadium and they're serving their city of license.

I'm guessing the frequency--whether it be Gangbanger 92.3 or KT'R-FM 92.3--
serves its COL in the eyes of the FCC, as it puts a city-grade signal over Glendale
and you can contact the station (biz office or boss line) via a local phone number.
Not sure which sub-section of the FCC docket covers this. Where's Fybush when
you need him?
