98.3 Meriden and spurs

Does 98.3 in Meriden air the same programming as 89.7 in the Vernon area? If not, then I heard not one, but two very nasty spurs coming from this station.

Saturday night I was in Meriden in the area where McDonald's at the southernmost end of route 71 and knowing I can usually get NYC stations in this area, I started a bandscan from the top of the dial down (hoping to first get WBLS) and at 106.7 there was a station in spanish, very loud and distorted and with a massive loud buzz, at first I thought it was a pirate, but then I realised the programming was the same as 98.3, and so I checked 98.3 and it was the same. 98.3 didn't have the same audio trouble, but there was still a very obvious hum in the background. I kept up with the bandscan, and found 89.7 sounds exactly the same as 106.7, but since I didn't know if 98.3 & 89.7 carried the same programming, I wasn't entirely sure if it wasn't the vernon area station. (I'm betting it's not).

Actually, CT Route 71 ends just over the Meriden/Wallingford town line to the south of there. As for the station on 98.3, all I know is when I have them on my Sony Walkman, heading north on the same state highway into Berlin, this happens: As soon as I hit the Berlin line, that station is gone. I'll get nothing but static for a few minutes. I'll then get a sliver of WILI-FM 98.3 of Willimantic heading towards the Willow Brook connector highway near New Britain Stadium and the Grove Hill Medical Center. My home Sony stereo will also get a weak signal of WDAQ-FM 98.3 of Danbury, depending which way I've got the wire antenna pointing. (I NEVER get the Meriden translator at my New Britain house.)

By the way, what do you mean by "spurs"?<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah, that's right, I always forget that it's a turn at that point.

A spur? Hmm, isn't it a radio hobby term for stray signals from a transmitter? I think it's specifically a multiple of the original frequency, but I've heard it used loosly in cases where it's not. I hear Glenn Hauser use the term alot.
