98.3 The Promise

I guess someone made a promise not to pay this station any attention because its been silent for the last 30 hours or so with the stereo pilot still on.Either no one cares or its the most ingenious stunting effort ever!! With this format the ratings will go through the roof!!!

Its back on now but was off for quite a while...I realize things happen, stuff breaks but I just stratch my head at how often these things happen. It just seems to me..my opinion only that the amount of TLC given to some stations has dropped dramatically. Having a radio station is an honor and the lack of pride shown sometimes baffles me.

AV,

The way the good doctor operates Connor Broadcasting (whom I knew, we had great talks) has never made any sense unless it's written off as a tax lost... This has not been uncommon. I hope he doesn't treat his patients the same way.... I know I could do a much better job, but let us remember in the final analysis the airwaves belong to John Q Public - us! I wonder if Judy E. lets them run BOB that way.... Maybe Salem should come in and operate "The Promise... [sic]." At any rate it, since Archway was shut down it's always been a joke and I do think it has much more potential then to be operated in the manner it has been operated for the past four years plus.... It's a travesty really, especially with the enormous of professional talent we have living within the service area, right here. But on the other hand this is what you can expect with Republican driven rampant deregulation. But personally I think the GOP is on to something, deregulate commercial radio period, then I could open up my station and do great radio for change.... No joke! Yes that's it... I am for way less goverment regulation then I would find a way to open my own 98.3fm with at least 50 kw and if the other guy didn't like it - TOO BAD! But I can do that, too many regulations. It's no wonder I may not be able to operate a successful broadcast "BIZZNESS!"

Doc has certainly made some interesting decisions. I worked at the original country Bear from 97-99 and it was interesting to say the least. I've never had a conversation with Ron but lots of friends have and I'm told he is a good guy who loves radio but you have to stratch your head at some of the moves over the years. He has a couple of properties that could be real players in the market but well..oh well. It must be nice to have that kinda money to play with. You just have to wonder what could be if the right people were put in the right situation and given the resources and freedom to do it right.

I tried listening to The Promise on tunein.com but the stream wouldn't start. In fact I tried several times. Couldn't find a website for them. I did find quite an impressive Christian Station in NJ. They sponsored a free concert with artists, Aaron Shust, Jason Gray and Downhere. Who does that? :)

Here's their stream:

quadraphonic, you old goat, I was wondering what happened to you! I haven't heard from you in ages. Was getting worried! Glad to see you're chipper as always!!! :D

Oh I've been around.
Haven't really advertised my presence, not even to the level of pretending to have 'found' something cool I did and telling everyone else about it from a distance.
But that's just me. An old accuracy-striving goat who respects everyone else enough to say "Hey, look at me! Look at what I did!" when the need is warranted, and "Hey I found this" when it's something I actually found. 8)

Hmmm...

I wonder if my American Soul music format www.americansoul.us could work here on one of those "idle" or "under-used" radio properties in Eastern North Carolina (Arbitron Ranked #83). I mean after all African-American consumers (all demos living here) have only been spending a billion dollars plus here in Eastern Carolina annually since 2005. Beginning in 2004, a study "BLACK ECONOMIC IMPACT BY METRO AREA" according the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprises (UNC), black consumers spent $966 million dollars in the Greenville MSA. Statistically speaking in a consolidated Ten County DMA in 2000 (Pitt, Nash, Edgecomb, Wilson, Craven, Lenoir, Beaufort, Martin, Pamlico and Halifax) within a 35 to 40 mile radius of Greenville ranked somewhere as the 22nd largest black market in the nation (my "stats"). That was more than ten years ago.

In-migrating audiences to Eastern North Carolina, is and has been a factor for ten years or more, BUT this large and ever growing market composed largely of Baby Boomers who have traditionally listen to radio music programs as well as shaped by those musical forces have chronically, naively and even blatantly been ignored. And along the way evolving types of legislative decisions (priveledges)hasn't help either.

Ahhh... wish I could get my "hands-on" hands on a radio station here, I don't even care if it is a large regional A-M that has a reach of more than thirty counties on this side of North Carolina and has streaming capabilities (hey... that's value added stuff). I would call it Old School Boogie - MAYBE! I can guarantee one thing I wouldn't be an impoverished broadcaster with that kind of product to promote. I problely would be looking for "tax write-offs" because I would be making so much money. That what some people do with their radio properties. I wonder if thats what's happening? Shades of WLAC. Randy where are you when we need you so bad. 몰라요...? Mul-Lah-Yo...? 'I just don't know', as the say in Korean...? Makes me want to scratch my head... :-[ You 'Tarheels' should know what I mean.

Hmmm..., I suppose I will just continue on with my Korean Language Studies. Maybe I will become fluent. Maybe they will like my "S[e]oul" music somewhere down they line. Maybe they will import it back into America. Maybe Hyundai may like it. Maybe the 'Kia Soul' might like it (아마 '기아 소울'이 그걸 좋아하지 수 있습니다) [sic]. Maybe Samsung might like it.... But maybe... Maybe even Multicultural Contemporary Block programing could be a big winner right here (just so long as you make sure you "save" a slot for AMERICAN SOUL and then I won't have to go nowhere). Hey... just maybe we should be thinking outside the box. Besides just how many Gospel Music stations and Country Music stations, et cetera; can you have here before you saturate the market..???

몰라요...?
Muh_Lah_Yo... I just don't know... :'(
