98.5 alredy playing christmas tunes

On Monday 98.5 began playing chritsmas music at least 2 an hour. Question is it too soon? Last year they started in December. I usually start the weekend after TG....thoughts
 
With all due respect to Big Oldies, I personally believe it's too soon. At stores and stuff, the Christmas season has begun. I also know that it's gotten worse over the years, to the point now where Christmas seems to begin right after Halloween. However musically, I think you're right on point starting after Turkey Day, Double C. I think the average listener doesn't care to be bombarded with these songs just yet. The ones that do like it would just assume listen to an all Christmas station right now. Don't get me wrong. I love "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" by the Jackson 5 as much as the next guy. I'm just not ready to hear it right now right now...but later later (Thank you George Lopez). Hope all is well with everyone...laterzzz!!!

I know huh?...you're right, but believe it or not, even at our spanish station we play christmas music but we start to play it after Thanksgiving (thank God). The problem with the spanish christmas music is that must of it talks about missing someone for christmas and it sounds depressing Tu Regalo Se Quedo Debajo Del Arbol (Your present was left under the tree). I wish someone would record some upbeat christmas music in spanish...
 
DoubleC, BigBenny, Spadio...just two Christmas songs per hour? :D Here in Phoenix (where I live)...94.5 KOOL-FM went all Christmas the day after Halloween..."The Valley's Home for the Holidays"...and just a few days later 99.9 KEZ (AC KESZ-FM) went all Christmas music too.."The Holiday Station." So here in "The Valley of the Sun" we have two all-Christmas-all-the-time stations. KOOL-FM is reminding Oldies fans on air that they can catch their favorite oldies streaming on line at the station's website until Christmas ;D Anyone taking bets on when "Magic-99" will go all Christmas this year?
 
I worked for both 103.9 The Party(R.I.P.) and 104.7 Kiss-FM while there from 2001-2004, and I remember KEZ doing that regularly, but KOOL now, too? Sad. Jerry, you have my sympathy! LOL!!! Tell Beth and Bill I said 'hi"! LOL!!!
 
When I was PD at KABG The GM at The Time Little Joe yelled at me for playing a christmas tune on Dec 10th...as he said I banned that junk until dec 24th I hate Christmas........well 99.5 seems to do ok. While I think all christmas music is a bit much
I do think their is a happy compromise. We must remember we program for our listeners and not our personal feelings, as I told Little Joe.....you remember him little Joe Benny.....The plus to doing all holiday music is to Stand Out. KABG is saying you can hear xmas tunes on the 20's I perfer to let them pop up as a Holiday surprise....

Thanks for the sympathy Bigbenny ;D Double C....if the Winter book numbers weren't consistently so good for KEZ...I'm sure they'd dropped the all Christmas format in a heartbeat :-X I believe they are one of the early pioneers with the format..traditionally going Christmas on Black Friday...with a big kick-off remote at one of the Malls in the metro area wiht their morning team "Beth and Bill". But over the past few years...the formart flip has started earlier and earlier. KOOL-FM flipping Nov. 1st I believe forced them to flip the earliest that they ever have.
