98.5 heard in Chester County!

I know B98 is classified as a Philadelphia Market Station on Wikipedia (because it comes in on the Jersey Side?) but I can get 95.1 WAYV and 98.5 B98 W??? regularly - mornings 6-9 then it fades. Why is this?

This is about 120 miles from the transmitter, by Newark/Wilmington.

Also, WSJO has near full market coverage.

WBBO-FM, and I'd bet it was a tropo event

Edit: Perhaps you were hearing WKRZ from Scranton? Both are CHR formats (I often get WKRZ during tropo in Albany, NY area)

WBBO-FM, and I'd bet it was a tropo event

Scranton may be even further then WBBO.

And yeah, both of them said their names. It was a really rigged house stereo - 95.1 WAYV was a clear signal! I should have recorded it.

It's 70-75 miles, but it's still a nice catch for a tiny class A. B98.5 gets out really well when there's a tropo opening (usually nights or early mornings).

WKRZ would be a tougher catch, as it is further, but I'm sure it's gotten down there before. I've gotten WSTW from the Jim Thorpe area before, which is kind of the reverse of a WKRZ-to-Delaware scenario.

The only time I was able to get a clash of WBBO & WKRZ was when I was in Holland Twp last Sunday. Speaking of KRZ, their simulcast on 107.9 was getting beaten up by WPHI (Hot 107.9)

98.5 is WBBO which transmits from Manahawkin, NJ (Ocean County). It is only 67 miles from Wilmington DE and 78 miles from Newark DE.

The station is on the same tower as WVBH 88.3 and WCHR-FM 105.7.

As for it being classified in the Philly market, that would probably be because about half of WBBO's primary coverage area is in Burlington County which is part of the Philadelphia metro area.

**As a side note: WSTW from Wilmington DE comes in quite well in Manahawkin, but then again WSTW is running a lot more power than WBBO.

B98.5 really does get out well during tropo. I heard B98.5 almost completely dominating 98.5 in Long Island only 10 miles from the La Fiesta 98.5 transmitter. I was also able to get SoJo 104.9 in HD with no dropouts during that same opening.

SoJo is one of the best reaching frequencies from the Atlantic City market into Delaware, I can always get it, with a little bit better then a fringe signal. I'm not suprised it made it's way up to Long Island.

B98.5 was a treat that day; I actually caught it with the scan.

In otherwords, WCHR isn't possible because of Baltimore's 105.7 (that 97.9 and 106.5 happen to be the only signals that can be caught near Wilmington.

Tropo from Atlantic City stations go a long ways, from my experiences. The market has exceptional stations, glad to get them on a average basis.
