98.5 The Beach

Bill, advertisers don't buy based on concert attendance. But everyone does understand your need to slam the competition. It's a lot classier to work on your own assets, though. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the three year trends regardless of how anyone spins it. And when is the last time WHKR sponsored an event? Heck, they don't even run their hot dog wagon any more, do they?

When I see BS I call it just like you have tried to do numerous times. Like I said in previous post I praised the sales and promotional efforts of the beach.

As far as the "Chuck Wagon" that is one thing I am glad to see gone! If you want to know how well our stations produce event results just ask Giles!

In spite of your silly cowboy swagger, I'm sure you know a lot of things I don't know. But some things are obvious on the face of it even to a dummy like me. The Three Dog Night thing is just smoke blowing, and when you get done with your church lady superior dance you'll still have to admit that.

The Beach has been hotter'n a $2 pistol. They've got the right product in the right place at the right time. Yeah, the signal is weak but look at how they tied 100kw WAOA. They're well operated, have local DJs, and are very pleasant to listen to if you like the 60's and 70's format. Vernon Smith paid a bunch for the license, but it's got legs in the Melbourne market. I'm actually surprised how far their 6000 watts gets them.

You actually had me until I checked the ratings. The 3.6 Share 3 way tie for 9th place that WSBH has 25-54s isn't close to the #2 6.8 ranking of WAOA. But then again WSBH is the #2 station 55+, so no surprise there, considering no one else on FM except WOSN, is targeting those AARP members which no advertiser wants.

Check out this Sunday's Florida Today Article:

The goal was to raise at least $20,000 for Project Hunger, a grass-roots effort to feed Brevard County's needy.

That one should be easy. As Project Hunger is a Charity, they should be willing to publicly disclose how much was donated by the event.

Hey Paper Bill - Here is a measuring stick for ya.... Back in the day when WHKR had real people on the air and talented I might add - who cared about the station - its image and the people that listened to the Hit Kicker they raised over 160 Thousand Dollars for St Jude Children's Hospital - Your last lazy attempt at a radiothon only raised 34K.......What's up with that ? And who the hell is Giles ? Like he is some sort of Barometer of success - who ever he is ?

Hey Radio Skipper, If you have been in radio in Brevard you know exactly who Giles is. As far as St Judes, could it be that we are in a recession and all the bad news just hit regarding the Space program? I'm willling to concede that the Hitkicker probably had more listners in the past, but all charity giving is down specially in Brevard.

It is pretty good... well, when George was president and built it... It used a service from the Colorado Rockies
That is George Metcalf and Riverside bankI think they use the same service and they are number two in ratings

Oh, I am looking for affilates.

Interesting, I can pick up 98.5 WKTK out of Crystal River (Gainesville/Ocala) just barely on Orlando's east side. In Bithlo it's odd to hear KTK, not Beach just 30-40 miles to my east.... ;D

The Beach gets programming from Dial-Global Radio Networks. Their success is to be commended and the staff, Dave Poore, Ray Michaels and the rest, are invested and involved. I can tell you that from first-hand knowledge, being their PM Drive personality. As far as being local, I can also tell you that there are a certain number of purely local breaks per hour, hard wired into the format. We even do local contesting and weather!! Also, the fact that I've worked in the area for many years (BJ-105. WMMO, Cool 105.9), means that I am familiar with the area and know how to pronounce 'Indialantic'. Regarding any advantages to programming the music locally....why? The music is, obviously on-target. If we are missing any songs that were regional hits 'back in the day', they are largely irrelevant today because of the influx of population from other areas of the country over the past 30 years.

As an old time 60's Radio Guy from Brevard, I'm glad to hear someone is at least making the effort to keep up the old WRKT/WKKO/ CK101 Traditions and keeping some local and live! BIGAPE

Well, given the radio realities of today, we do what we can.

John, whatever came of that mean, nasty GM at Nationwide in Orlando? His ego was the size of the Booby Trap up the road..... ;D

(lol)...uh..Rick...I forget his last name. I know he went to Cleveland for a while in the 90's. Then, I heard he returned to Central Florida after that. Then, I lost track.....OH! .....Weinkauf! Rick Weinkauf, Yeah, that's it.
RE: The Booby Trap...When I arrived in Winter Park in 1986, Nationwide put me up at the Lee Road Howard Johnsons. The intersection of I-4 and Lee Road was interesting....Large fruit (HJ's) on one side and ...well..er......boobys on the other.
