98.5 "The Cat" Now on WCKL 560

I was tuned to 560 AM a few days ago that WCKL is back on the air for the fifth time that they are going to simulcast a WPLJ-type hot AC format known as "The Cat" from 98.5. What is WCKL thinking about simulcasting another FM station? What a disgrace!

This just shows you how there is NO creativity in broadcasting anymore just look the to situation in Pittsburgh their dropping ESPN radio and changing the format to Disney how sad is this.

They're saving a truck load of money their. First off they're going from LMAing 540 AM from Birach to their own O&O station 1250. That's a big money saver right there. Then Radio Disney needs no local hosts. So that saves even more money. Thirdly they don't need a studio for Radio Disney all the need is a sales office. So that saves even more money.

Keep buying foreign stuff ,everyone is going to be replaced by computers and sattelites!
This economy is in the big toiletbowl.javascript:void(0);

The Station has been on for months. Nobody noticed. When I heard it on the Thruway in early August, it sounded like they only had one channel of Stereo hooked up to the Transmitter and very Muddy sounding. Do they ID on the Hour?

True enough there is no creativity in radio these days. I can remember when AM was king and at night we could listen to many long distant stations and we knew which station it was just by their sound. Now all stations sound pretty much the same the same. They are either satellite fed, Voice tracked or automated. Of the stations that have live jocks (with some notable exceptions especially in the larger markets) there is not much room for personality. They say what they are told when they are told. That is not the case with WCKL, however. In 2004 The Black United Fund bought the station from Clear Channel, who were over the limit on stations in the market. Unfortunately The Black United Fund lacked the money to program the station so every summer they come on the air for a few months simulating a CC station, just to keep the license alive so they can say they haven’t been silent for over 12 months. WCKL keeps promising the FCC they plan to resume regular programming ’ soon’ , but every year have another reason to go silent again . The FCC doesn’t care. . Last year they had their own recorded loop playing. But the past few years they have used WCTW ‘the cat’ before that it was WZCR crusin 93.5
