True enough there is no creativity in radio these days. I can remember when AM was king and at night we could listen to many long distant stations and we knew which station it was just by their sound. Now all stations sound pretty much the same the same. They are either satellite fed, Voice tracked or automated. Of the stations that have live jocks (with some notable exceptions especially in the larger markets) there is not much room for personality. They say what they are told when they are told. That is not the case with WCKL, however. In 2004 The Black United Fund bought the station from Clear Channel, who were over the limit on stations in the market. Unfortunately The Black United Fund lacked the money to program the station so every summer they come on the air for a few months simulating a CC station, just to keep the license alive so they can say they haven’t been silent for over 12 months. WCKL keeps promising the FCC they plan to resume regular programming ’ soon’ , but every year have another reason to go silent again . The FCC doesn’t care. . Last year they had their own recorded loop playing. But the past few years they have used WCTW ‘the cat’ before that it was WZCR crusin 93.5
