98.5 The Globe?

Not to start any rumors, but I noticed that in addition to registering 947theglobe.com for its new Rock/AAA-hybrid in Washington, D.C., CBS Radio also registered 995theglobe.com and 985theglobe.com.

In addition to WBMX, CBS also owns 98.5s in Cleveland (WNCX) and Las Vegas (KLUC). I'd venture to guess that the 98.5 domain is intended for the Cleveland station if it is ever used, but is there any chance CBS could be thinking about making changes to WBMX? Though, IMHO, it wouldn't seem to make a lot of sense to launch an AAA in a market that already has WBOS, WXRV, and WZLX.

Interesting find with the other domains. However, I have a hard time seeing this happen in Boston (unless it is a HUGE success in DC), only for the reason that the AAA market is well saturated here.

Will not happen...Way Too Many Boring Soft ( 70's pothead's) Rock stations here in Boston .

Means nothing. CBS Radio notoriously does this to try to throw people off. Check out the NY board, when Fresh was comming on, they also registered a bunch of other names too. That's all that's happening here.

...though you wonder if someday the Globe will work a deal out with a station to do all news kind of
like Washington Post Radio. "The Globe"...

very good point. the globe usage in this market is already spoken for unless they're looking for legal trouble which i kind of doubt. globe 98.5 will never happen. maybe planet 98.5, but never globe.

Looks like the "Big Apple Radio Blog" (http://nyradio.blogspot.com/) picked up on this story. Apparently CBS also registered 985theearth.com, 985thefish.com (apparently they aren't aware that Salem's trademarked that one), 985themoon.com, 985thesun.com, and 985theworld.com. Either CBS is burning through their money on domain registrations or something is up at one of their 98.5s and one of their 99.5s.

that blog sounds dopey. just because 'democratic demos' relate to environmental issues here why would cbs risk potential trademark infringment with the globe 98.5? moronic thought process by that blogger.

plus the market already has two aaa stations. why on earth, no pun intended, would cbs introduce a third aaa station in boston?
