98.7 Friars Point

I see there is now a CP and call sign assigned for LT Simes App. for Friars Point on 98.7

call sign WNEV

The station city grades no towns that matter.. Both Clarksdale and Helena W. Helena are outside 70dBu but inside the 60dBu.

I guess when built he will have yet a 3rd signal simulcasting KCLT in dual channel mono with the pilot lit.

I barely hear any commercials on the stations is it Sunday Gospel & Church services keeping the lights on over there?

I'm sure this is just a move to keep anyone else from coming in and competing.
I also noticed a few other things past weekend
KCLT's STL sounds like they have their antennas out of alignment badly.
STL is hissing something awful due to a low signal...
audio is mono (like its been for years) and out of balance anyway

KAKJ sound very over modulated... enough that it distorts (at least the mono audio is centered)

Anyone know anything about the 95.5 licensed to Elaine, AR by SUNGILT CORPORATION, INC.
I think they used to or may still have a TV station in AZ.

Michael: An answer would take volumes...a good subject next time you stop in...Thanks JBI

I noticed you have RDS on both FM's now

ironically while I was down your way recently one of my friends asked me about RDS as he noticed his radio was giving him song titles on a recent trip to Memphis.

I see there are a few N Miss. stations with at least a station name now in RDS.

I am saving for the day we (perhaps) go digital...so not going for titles, etc. at this point. Have a real concern about coverage issues and other factors pretaining to digital...hence, a wait and see attitude. Honestly, I don't see a world of sound improvement with digital, but I have old, tired ears. Thanks JBI

I understand the obvious reason many stations do not display song titles.

Data links to rural tx sites aren't always the easiest things to come by for one thing.
Extra ex.

Can you pull RDS info down for Sat. fed formats?

RDS is a neat Toy. Some listeners notice it like they used to notice the stereo light (which ironically isn't well displayed on many newer radios). I guess it has that "coolness" factor to it.

It's not just your ears. I recently added HD to one of my vehicles, and find the HD to sound darn-near identical to the analog. Of course, the audio out the speakers can only sound as good as what goes into the audio chain, so that may be an issue.

To me, the value of HD radio is adding extra streams. But, for that to have true value, there will need to be more folks with receivers out there.

RDS + clean audio = no need for HD at the moment. :p

I've been a fan of RDS since it works pretty well (except those stations that like to scroll / page info on the PS)... Other than extra streams, which reduce the overall sound quality of the main stream, there really is no point to digital radio.

FWIW I tried to log the RDS on WBLE today but I only got about 30 seconds of audio, then poof -- off the air for a while. On the other hand, I did log WJOX from Northport (Tuscsaloosa), AL, from Grenada. ;D

Sorry about the outage...we are near Sardis Lake with a 500 ft. tower...lightning rod would be a better term....That, coupled with deep rural facilities has (and does) cause these glitches for 20 years now...Try again....Thanks...JBI

I understand. I've been out in that area before... Isn't the KBUD tower right next to yours? It's weird (to me, anyway) seeing two almost equal height towers that seem to support only one service each, right next to each other.

I finally got a good copy this morning around 8 am, enough to trigger the RDS. :)

Tried for WHKL for a while but it was nowhere in sight; 106.7 in Jackson and 107.1 in Belzoni were full quieting for a long time...

Yes, KBUD is 1500 feet away...would not really want to lease space to another broadcaster, and especially this one.
WHKL tower is some 50 air miles from Grenada, and we are co channel with a full
C in Tennessee...Gives us fits...Thanks...JBI

WDFX Cleveland (98.3) and WZYQ Mound Bayou (101.9) have almost identical 340-foot towers sitting side-by-side in a bean field just east of Mound Bayou. When I built WZYQ, Rev. Wildmon's gang wouldn't lease tower space to me - they said they were concerned about interference. So I built it right in the shadow of their tower. Of course, there was no interference - and they lost ongoing tower rent. Then again, if you played some of the WZYQ's Celine Dion songs backwards, there were supposedly satanic messages. Maybe that's the interference they were referring to.
