98.7 is flipping on Friday 1/10 6pm

Keep in mind there is NOBODY who posts there [NYRMB] that has nearly any clue how radio works in 2025 let alone 2005... THAT board only exists [sic] because I banned him from Mid-Atlantic Radio Board in 1997 for spamming about his WABC tribute site.
The truth comes out! :ROFLMAO:

Female DJ on 98.7 just now: "Don't tell anyone but I heard the music [of the new format] and it's really good!"

She did not say whether or not listeners would now need Babbel or Duolingo to enjoy the new station

Whether they play Hank FM, active rock, or Bob, it should be fun having a format not usually available in this area, even if it only lasts for a few weeks.

It all depends on whether the LMAer or new owner is a lone wolf or not. Then again, we have WBAI

In his last segment before the flip, TJ said the new format on 98.7 would be "daring." No kidding.

Source as in? It's being consulted/programmed by McVay just as TJ was. Being operated directly by Emmis as noted.

Yes I see it now, you've added this quote from Smulyan:

Emmis Chairman Jeff Smulyan called the launch of the station an easy decision. “We’ve been trying to sell our last two stations in New York, but when ESPN/Good Karma moved to AM after the LMA, we thoroughly reviewed the New York market and saw a significant opportunity for a Spanish AC format playing English and Spanish hits from the 1980s to 2000s. We believe the opportunity was too good to pass up and have spent several months preparing for the launch.”

Not what I expected, but then again neither was TJ. So Emmis is now back in the radio business.

Mike was very open about the TJ project, so I expect we'll see an interview soon about this.
